True, but it is still what history says about him.
For the talent he had, he should have done much more.
Yes, he had some talent to work with, but you act as though they were all on the same team at the same time.
If you look at his tourney history you could argue that he didn't underachieve. As we all know anything can happen during March Madness.
His best regular season teams were as follows:
2002-2003- 26-7 (Final 4)
2005-2006- 30-7(Elite 8)
2007-2008- 31-7 (Elite 8)
2010-2011- 28-8 (3rd round)
In 2002 they lost to Syracuse (Carmelo Anthony)
In 2005 they lost to Memphis who went on to play for the title.
In 2007 they lost to a very good LSU team (Glen Davis, Tyrus Thomas, Garrett Temple).
In 2010 they lost to Arizona.
Also, if you look at his recruiting the majority of the talent came from Texas probably (80-90%).
He had a couple of big name guys (Tristan Thompson, Cory Joseph, and Kabongo) all come from Henderson, NV.
Yes, he had some NBA guys but they weren't all together and apart from 3-4 of them they aren't big name guys. Everyone acts as if he is Cal and pulling in tons of 1st rounders that are all actually playing with one another.
I'm sure everyone would take Cal as coach, but if you want to talk about Underachieving look at the guys he has had on the same team too.
