'17 TN OL/DT Trey Smith (UT commit 12/6/2016)

There's no chance a big time recruit goes to Ole Miss with the NCAA investigation hanging over them.

They're finished.

People keep saying stuff like this, but it sure did not impact Alabama or USC when they were being investigated or were on probation.

They suffered from lack of bodies, but certainly did not suffer from lack of talent.

LOL.

Ole Miss aint Bama or USC. Those are 2 of the most storied programs in history. With long traditions of being great.

Ole Miss is a nobody that cheated like heck the last few years to become relevant. With the cheating over, they will return to the irrelevance they always occupied.

Ole Miss does not equal Bama or USC. Not even remotely.

Granted, they didn't have much of a coach at the time (Mike Shula) but Alabama went 4-8 in 2003. USC didn't have much of a coach either in 2012 (Joey Freshwater) but they went 7-6... and those are both much better programs than Ole Miss (obviously).

Yea. I don't know how anyone could say such a thing.

Ole Miss was a nobody in recruiting before 2013. And we all know what they did to land that class.

Minus the shenanigans, they'll go right back to the level they were in the past. Which is fighting with Miss St. for recruits. Not us or Alabama.

Right but his point was still wrong because the NCAA investigations and subsequent sanctions did damage Alabama badly (they did not recover until Saban was hired) and USC is still not back to where they were in 2009.

They're following the visits. I know a lot of it has to do with geography but he's been to Ole Miss 4 times since 1st of April and to UT 0 during that same time span. Hubbs and co. still seem positive and after the Richmond recruitment, I wouldn't count Jones out at all. But I'd feel a whole lot better about our chances here if he could make it to campus a time or two.

Yep, the NCAA investigation has been going on for two years killed them in recruiting this year. Oh wait, they just signed the #6 class with 2 top 5 guys in the nation. They must not have been 'big time recruits'.

If Ole Miss actually ran the ball, Akers would be a lock to them. Still think they have the upper hand unless the NCAA grows a pair and actually does something (which I doubt). OM doesn't pull the big time guys until Jan/Feb.
I'm glad they are 'finished'. :thud:

Very true, and also it's recruiting rule number one, Always follow the visits. According to their board (yeah, I know) he has been there more times just to hang out. If he isn't going to visit Tn after them basically doing a camp just for him, his interest level isn't there.

That doesn't tell the whole story and you know it. The likelihood of NCAA sanctions with a possible postseason ban did not come to light until Tunsil's draft night admission. They have already self imposed a loss of 11 scholarships. I will be shocked if the NCAA committee on infractions does not add to that. We will not see the impact of this scandal until NSD 2017... and then there is that ball breaker of a schedule they're looking at this year. I think they lose 4 maybe even 5 games (Florida St, Georgia, Alabama, at LSU and at Arkansas).

If this was Alabama I'd be concerned.

I have zero concerns with Ole Miss. They're about to face a 2 year bowl ban, loss of a ton of scholarships, and Freeze might even be fired.

They aint getting nobody.

The 11 sounds a lot worse than it is, it's basically only 2-3 a year. Most programs start August 1st with only 82 or so on scholly anyway because of off season attrition unless you are Bama and have to cut guys to get down to 85. I agree 100% on the schedule, they could easily start 1-3.

First of all, they didn't even disclose the Notice of Allegations until a few weeks ago. When the news of the NOA dropped around signing day, they were lying to everyone saying most of the violations were before Freeze or related to women's basketball. Even Finebaum has been getting on them for lying about it on NSD.

Then the Laremy Tunsil bombshell dropped which opened up a new investigation by the NCAA.

If you don't think these NEW allegations have affected Ole Miss, which don't you tell me how their 2017 class is doing right now?

I'll wait.

I know the breakdown per year and I also think the NCAA adds to that 11. Ole Miss is no sacred cow. They are a Johnny Come Lately who the NCAA can make an example of. This is not North Carolina basketball we are talking about here. I think their momentum is about to be crushed.

...and we will see about Smith's visits when the season starts. Drew Richmond visited Ole Miss far more times than he did Tennessee but he did visit Tennessee during the season. If he doesn't come up for the Florida game than you are probably right about his not having interest but I don't think that's the case.

Wrong, again.

The LOA was dropped on Ole Miss right before signing day (and if you ask rebel fans, on purpose).

The two year investigation was about Tunsil, not a 'new' one. Miller had already given them all his financial records as well, texts, phone records, etc. Tunsil finally just admitted the truth on draft night. I do believe the Treadwell recruitment is even dirtier than Tunsil, but no one on that side is squealing.

As I said, OM lands the big fish in Jan/Feb, go look at ALL of the classes under Freeze. All the big ones are last minute guys.......I'll wait

I can agree with some of this, but I will add one note. Ole Miss is no CASH cow for the NCAA. If it was Bama or Auburn, I could almost guarantee nothing will happen. OM should be made an example of, just knowing the examples the NCAA has proven, I'll believe it when I see it.

They would rather suspend a bball coach for a year for a BBQ than a football coach handing out new car keys...
