Thank GFW! What I am hearing about the wr is great news. Also, what a luxury it is to be able to recruit your type of the guy on the OL, let them come in and red shirt a year before having to play.

Also I think Brooks can be great if he stays healthy

Also should of added that a few walk ons I believe will contribute here in some form: Brian Garvey, Andrew Craig, Taeler Dowdy, and the kickers (believe we got 2 or 3 highly ranked Kohl's guys)

JG: Word around these parts is he's already showing elite skills and work ethic. Gaining some muscle mass and definitely looks the part. Very nice kid. Can't really imagine this kid not being the future of this program. Bigger than Dobbs when he came in.

Ryan Johnson: Dude is easily the biggest OL that came in. Very strong kid. IMO will end up at OG, but once again, just my opinion here. Of any of the new lineman, could see him getting earliest playing time.

Marcus Tatum: Tall and lean. Definitely needs a redshirt but you can tell the ELITE athleticism and ability is there. 2-3 years down the road he will be an All-SEC type player. Mark it down.

Brandon Johnson: Hearing his name almost every day when it comes down to guys who could contribute early. He looks similar to Malone coming in from a size perspective. Could stand to gain some weight, but that will come quickly. Huge hands.

Pope: Looks a little undersized as a TE (Daniel Helm build). The way Butch wants to use TE's will probably mean he will be the pass catcher of the two TE's brought in. Great hands, agility, athleticism. Not afraid to go up for a ball, which is a big plus in this offense.

Devante: Devante is a big TE. 6'5" 260-ish with room to grow. Don't have much info on him besides the eye test, which he definitely passes. Would bet he is used more on run heavy downs.

Baylen: Cam Sutton build. Let's hope he's a Cam Sutton type player. Don't know much on him.

Lat Williams: Latrell is another name I am constantly hearing as a potential day 1 contributor. He's a pretty small receiver but I am hearing he is already one of if not the fastest players on the team. Speed kills, and Lat's got it.

Niehaus: Dude's got to be closer to 6'7". He's on the skinny side, but like Marcus, seems to be super athletic and possessing high ability. We will be reloading elite bookends in 2-3 years if you ask me.

This is all I got. As I learn and see more things, I'll be sure to pass it along. We're on the final stretch of the offseason. Go vols! Also, sidenote, heard more good news regarding Gibbs. :loco:

Hmm. I'm not ready to go quite that far. Going backwards and answering the question "this is the most talented UT team since..." is tough.

I don't think you can look past that 2001 team. It was as loaded as any recent Bama squad and should have played for a national title. We had so many quality NFL players on that team. We have a lot now, but it's hard to say at this point that we have quite that many.

My best guess is the mid-2000s. I think we are back to that point, and can easily get back to 2001 with another elite recruiting class and another year of development.

We'll see though. Would love it if you are right and this is a national championship team.

There's a Big Orange moon rising over Tennessee. The suffering is ending, enjoy the ride. When Tennessee defenses are elite, great things happen. When in-state and Georgia recruits/commitments are strong, so are the Vols.

But even though it's only one computer, it only does it on volnation.

Starting with the 99 team there were several years, particularly 2001, when some of the players seemed to be focused on "next year" meaning the NFL, and seemed to save themselves during the season. Fulmer even commented on it, and though I never heard or read where he called him out directly I believe he was referring to Jamal Lewis.

This became a problem for UT in the early 2000s and might explain some of the underachievement that people puzzled over. I personally suspect this led to Fulmer being undermined as the head coach and gradually led to his and UT's underachievement with the talent they had.

As much as I dislike Saban he seems to be able to focus his players on playing for Alabama while they are there, though some say there was a problem in 2014 team that Ohio State beat. Last year there was not.

The reason I bring this up is because so far, Butch has not allowed this to happen that I can see. I was really impressed that he ran off a couple of really good players that did not "buy in". While no one wants this to happen sometimes it's necessary. (I learned a valuable business lesson on this when a colleague of mine told me "if you can't fire them when you need them you'll never be able to fire them".) He was right!

This season will start to answer whether this will be true or not. If he can keep them focused and perform for UT then I agree with BB, this team could be better than any we have seen since 1998. If he can do this this year and into the future then he can be a great coach and our record will show it.
