I'd take B. The wins against Florida and Bama would make up for not winning the east.

But I don't see where we could beat Bama,florida...and lose to Georgia and a&m..

A
But then again I read in the fb forum also.
The thought of them no longer building monuments and falling into the fetal position at the mere mention of Florida, does sound enticing.

I can still here everyone in America going into 2017 season. Yea TN won the East last year but they still couldn't get over the Alabama and Florida hump, 21 years straight combined, blah blah.

Instead the alternative is the Vols had their best season in 10 years winning 10+ games and ending the streaks against Bama and UF. They did fall short of their goal of getting to Atlanta but with the UF and Bama monkey's off their back they think 2017 will be the year to get back to ATL.

I think the second scenario plays out a lot like the first.
"Yeah they beat Florida and Alabama but they still couldn't win the east. The new Ole Miss".

I'm just going to take complaints out of the equation. Let's be honest, if we go 15-0, some will complain because we didn't win by enough.

Two options, pick one.

A - 10-2 (6-2) Losses to Alabama and Florida. Win SEC East and play LSU in SEC Title game.
B- 10-2 (6-2) Losses to Georgia and A&M. Miss out on SEC East w/ UGA winning it and them playing LSU

I honestly would almost take option B, getting those two monkey's off our back would be huge and I am not confident we'd win in Atlanta anyway. Going undefeated in Neyland would be epic.

Not sure which scenario would be spun more favorably.

I know, I know you take the East title and don't question it but this is really hard to me!

Option A without question.

I'll take A if we matchup well or beat LSU. Otherwise, B.

SECCG ain't what it used to be due to the playoffs. Past 3 East representatives lost badly and didn't really gain any momentum from it.

Plus, the narrative of making it to ATL while losing to UF and Bama would be similar to 2007 where people said we backed into the game.

The sheer joy of taking out UF and Bama would easily outweigh not making it to the Dome, especially if we ended up like UGA did in 2007 with a great bowl win and a top 5 ranking.

Soooo... I know this has been discussed, but how much better do you think the defense will be under Shoop this year? I know we lost Brian Randolph and Owen Williams, but is there any other significant contributor that won't be returning? Think about the teams Shoop has coached at his last two stops and what he did with them.

Barring critical injuries, how can Shoop fail to put together a beast of a defense this year given the talent level he has NEVER had before?

There are no headlines congratulating Ole Miss for beating Alabama two years in a row. We need an SECCG.

UGA has 4 losses on their schedule

Haven't you heard?

Kirby Smart is Nick Saban 2.0. All UGA lacked was motivation. Nick Chubb has Wolverine-like healing factors. Their QB is one of the first that could have went to the NFL straight from high school. Mark Richt was a clown that absolute cratered that program. Etc. Etc.

I think as long as he can get the guys to play in his scheme without thinking we should be good. Please no Sunseri!

What 4 do you see? Just curious. I can see losses to Ole Miss, and hopefully Tennessee, but all other games are up in the air. I can't see a UNC team that allowed 645 RUSHING yards to Baylor in their last game stopping Michel and a maybe 80% healthy Chubb in their first game. Who knows what Florida or Auburn will look like. GA Tech is coming off a horrible season.

Georgia is hard to figure right now. to me that's the wild card game. the could have already lost to Ole Miss when we show up, they could be undefeated....we have now idea how the QB is going to turn out in year one, no idea yet on exactly how healthy Chubb is going to be, the defense is replacing some key players and they have a new coach.

the have to get a lot of correct answers for their season to swing toward an East 'ship. that's the good news. the bad news is they have the talent on the roster to do it.

so....i think Beating FL is paramount. i don't think we win both of those road games and Bama, at best, is a toss up.

we can get to ATL with any 10-2 record you could throw up there just about, save losses to both FL and GA.

all things being equal...let's beat FL and see how we do with the rest of the schedule.

Who knows what Georgia will look like? Lost multiple players on the OLfrom last year. Freshman QB in the SEC is rough. Less than 100% Chubb behind a new OL is a question.

UGA had trouble with mobile QBS last year. Enter UNC first game- loss

Ole Miss- loss

UT- loss

Either Florida or Auburn will get them.

Win them all. Expecting loses time is over.

This! Time to quit expecting losses. The Vols are as talented as any team in the SEC. Bama has more depth, but who doesn't like our starting 22 against theirs? TN is one of if not the best team in the SEC. GA has great running backs. And Tennessee doesn't? Florida has a great defensive line? And Tennessee's isn't better? A&M has Myles Garrett and great wide receivers. The Vols have Barnett and Josh Dobbs! Not to mention Preston Williams and others at receiver. But it's Bama! Okay, they beat us by four points last year and they won the natty. We had a team full of freshman and sophomores who are now juniors and sophomores, very talented and now very experienced and we didn't lose anybody. Bama lost a lot. This team can beat anybody in the country. Why do we expect losses?

A. But I don't think I can handle another loss to UF. Tough question.

We must beat UF this year. Must win.
