It took my grandmother and my mother was diagnosed a couple of months ago.
Nothing but my deepest sympathies for Pat and her family.
Now would be good for some distracting positive news.
Sorry, I just hate this subject.
This news has hit me hard. Pat was diagnosed just a couple years before my dad. I hate this disease.
Me as well - memory of Mom's last day intermixed with sadness for Pat's suffering. I was sitting with Mom as she struggled to breathe - I told her Dad would be OK that she could let go. She did. I'm so glad Pat's family - all those she loves - are with her.
How is he doing at this point?
Good days/ bad days.
Like many with this disease, he gets pneumonia frequently which exacerbates his dementia.
Struggles to remember people and routine activities BUT still knows the Vols and will talk your ear off about them.

When Barbie and I were going through everything with Ashlee, it got to the point where I just got tired of people asking how we were and wanting us to recount what happened. I hate admitting that because it sounds as though I didn't appreciate them being thoughtful enough to check in with us. I appreciated it so much but, when you're going through hell, you relive the pain everytime you tell the story over again.
That's how I imagine Alzheimer's, the daily retelling of a very painful story.
The thing that helped most of all wad when people told us they were praying for us. I'm praying for you and your family, Volatil, and I'll pray for the Summit family as well.
