So there's a pretty interesting dicussion going on in Theo Jackson's thread after BreakerBoy compared Jalen Ramsey to Eric Berry and it made me think: who do you think has been the best DB in the SEC since Berry left? The two that come to mind for me are other Chavis products: Patrick Peterson and the Honey Badger. Granted, neither of those guys have stats like Berry's either. What do y'all think? I'm sure I'm overlooking someone or another.

Joe Haden was good, although he wasn't quite as good as Peterson and Mathieu.

Peterson from a pure DB. Badger as a playmaker. Claiborne also was dominant at CB his junior year. Haden wasn't as good in college as he is right now as a pro.

People trying to act like Ramsey wasn't good now. Had he played for Tennessee they'd been claiming him as the next Berry on this board.

If you could get any one of those guys (including Ramsey) for a season (assuming health and absense of off-field factors) based on collegiate output, who ya taking?

Edit: FTR, I'm probably taking the honey badger. Dude just had an amazing feel for the game and always seemed to come up with a big play.

How does a DA make such a profoundly stupid statement like that? Just say you don't have enough evidence and move on. Why do these guys poop their britches when they get a high profile case like this? Aren't lawyers (and, in turn, judges) trained in the oratory arts?

Meanwhile, I'm gonna go sweat a little outside and see what trouble I can get out of while you pansies sit in the A/C. :)

Peterson was ridiculous and is my guy if we going college. Athleticism was off the charts and could make any play Ramsey made. Plus was an absolute weapon in the return game. The job he did on Julio his Soph year was one of the most dominating perfomances I've seen on an elite WR in years. Teams literally avoiding him after the first few games his junior year.

So we have 18 commits currently for 2017 recruiting class. I know not all of the current 18 will stick just because it never happens, but let's just say they do.

Who are the remaining 7 guys we add to the class? It seems like a very small number to have left to add sitting here in June but I guess that's a good problem to have.
NOTE: Fortenberry said 25 is what we are looking at total for the class so that's what I'm basing this off of.

Thoughts?

I thought someone said we will probably still add another 9 or 10 guys. And the numbers will work themselves out like always.

We'll take the best players we can get and work the numbers. I'll be surprised if we don't sign 26-27... unless we hit and miss on some of our top prospects.

"Sunday morning one source inside the Tennessee program described the flurry of commitments as “unreal.”

Eight total.

Seven in the 2017 class.

Butch Jones and his staff expected two or three on what is always a huge recruiting weekend in Knoxville, but as the afternoon heated up, so did the 247Sports Commitment tracker as prospect after prospect said they were coming.

Tennessee went from No. 22 to No. 7 in the 247Sports Recruiting Rankings. The Vols are now building depth within a program that has been rebuilt by Jones and company into a National Title contender. The roster has been completely overhauled and this 2017 class is on track to supplement what’s been done the previous years where Tennessee signed the No. 14 class in 2016, No. 4 in 2015 and No. 7 in 2014 per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Defensive end Tre Lawson of North Augusta, S.C., defensive back Theo Jackson of Nashville, Tenn., wide receiver Princeton Fant of La Vergne, Tenn., defensive end LaTrell Bumphus of Savannah, Tenn., running back Trey Coleman of West Monroe, La., offensive lineman Jordan Tucker of Roswell, Ga., and linebacker/safety Jaquan Henderson of Covington, Ga., all committed to Tennessee on Saturday, along with four-star Class of 2018 athlete Alontae Taylor of Manchester, Tenn.

Three I really like from this group are Lawson, Coleman and Henderson.

At 6-foot-7, 250-pounds, Lawson reminds me of Malik McDowell, Michigan State’s stud defensive tackle when he was coming out of high school. Lawson can certainly play across the front but I ultimately see him as a force inside, quickly shooting through gaps, controlling the point of attack, knocking down footballs and closing fast on ball carriers and quarterbacks. Ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 14 strong-side defensive end, Lawson chose the Vols over Florida State, Ole Miss and South Carolina.
Depending on who declares for the NFL draft early, I could see Coleman making an immediate impact in the Tennessee backfield. At 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, he’s going to be a load in the SEC. I like the balance he runs with, has bounce, he’s slippery, subtle wiggle allows him to shake would-be tackles and clear them into the open field and once he finds the second level he has some juice to go the distance.
Henderson is a three-down player, an authoritative tackler and physical football player that runs through contact and ball carriers. He plays fundamentally sound, wraps up when tackling in space, and also shows he can play the football in the air and run with running backs downfield in coverage. He’s a safety, he could be a linebacker, but no question he’s going to be a good player for the Vols. A thumper.
You take Lawson, Henderson and Marquez Bembry, those are three three-star commits in Tennessee’s class with outstanding upside and potential to make that grade look awful!

Looking ahead to this fall, Fant is certainly going to be intriguing to watch. He had the injury that took his junior year away from him but from limited tape he looks like a powerful runner that defensive backs are going to have trouble getting to the turf in the open field.

Tucker has the dough to be molded into a big, physical offensive lineman. Bumphus does a little of everything on Friday nights for his team including returning kicks. Jackson is a free safety with a knack for being around the football."

May have missed it, but Vincent Perry has been ruled academically ineligible for the 2016 season.
