Kivon Bennett commits to UT

Looks like the bad news just keeps coming in. Realize that we just got a commitment from the #451 rated prospect in the nation. I would not be celebrating. I would be willing to bet Alabama was not even interested in this guy. They are too busy getting higher rated players and he was way down their board. Butch is recruiting mid major players and it is really starting to make my skin crawl to see us loading up on 3 stars like he is doing. At this point I would vote to bring Fulmer back. At least he could recruit well. Butch needs to wake up.

He will be a 4 star when Bama takes him from us

4* man. Majority rules. My opinion on the class as a whole is up in the air (I do think we will be happy when the chips all fall in place) so you may consider me as not an automatic sale on every single recruit we pick up, but good Lord man, look at his offer list. Seriously just LOOK at it. He is the son of Cornelius Bennett who was a freaking beast like no other man. Kids of legacies of that caliber almost always end up having the "it"factor. No major program would pass on him. Alabama offered, his dad went to Alabama, and he still comes here. So based on all of this, please, please, please explain to me what provoked your brain to say that we should hire Fulmer back over Jones? That statement is so detached from reality that it is absurd . I do not exaggerate that in any way. Absolutely absurd.

Statement #1: "According to the Bama boards, this was a commitable offer"
Statement #2: "Bama board is saying he was #9-10 on their board"

Both of these statements can not be true at the same time. There is no way you give a commitable offer to someone who is 9th on your board for a single position (you would do it for someone who is 9th on your whole recruiting board, not for 1 position). So either he was 9th on their DT board and the offer was not commitable, or he was higher than 9th on their DT board. I do not know which is true, but he looks like a great get to me!

I had my rabies shot so I'm immune to the Catbone. :)

On the other hand, I can't account for the other heathens in this thread screeching about 3 stars being the end of this program.

"But,but,but... more three stars end up in the NFL than four or five stars."

-Many of the same people that say three stars will be the death of the program

I think 247 is recognized as the standard for rankings and he is a 3 star on their board. We are woefully thin at DT right now and at 265 Lbs this guy looks to be years away from helping. We are not in position to be red shirting anyone on the DL right now. We signed 1 DL last year who will never play for UT. That means we signed zero DL last year. I can't remember the last time Tennessee took such an approach to recruiting. We have almost filled up our class now and there are BETTER players out there that we could have gotten.

Do you also realize how many programs were chasing this kid? As well as the fact there is an entire Senior season for this kid to improve his stock?

Step away from the freakin ledge.

He's also a 3 star in the state of Florida who plays against very good competition. Not all 3 stars are created equal.

Also, how do know Alexis Johnson wont play at UT? Nothing has been decided yet so why jump to conclusions?

We are saying that about everybody we are getting. Just wait until his senior season as if all of a sudden all these mediocre players are going to morph into 4 star beasts. The great players who are ranked 4 and 5 star players will get better also, so it is all relative. Let's be honest folks, we are settling for players right now that just aren't the kind of guys who have the star power to propel us to the top of the SEC.

1. They are recognized as a top service but not the only top service
2. We are not woefully thin at DT(slightly thin depth wise, definitely not woefully)
3. He is 16. He will be 290 EASILY when he comes in.
4.The class is not almost full.
5. When we sign a 4*DT, that doesn't mean we won't sign one, two or even three more. If depth is a projected issue (as you say) then signing a 4* DT might not be a bad idea as a way to provide it.Having 5* rotation players is a pipe dream.

Mediocre player? Did you look at the list of offers?

UT
Bama
Arky
Florida
FSU
UGA
LSU
Miami
Michigan
Miss St
Nebraska
Notre Dame

Just to list a few.

Now does this seem like the type of player that one might call "mediocre?"

You really are shooting yourself in the foot by acting crazy over commits this early in the recruiting cycle.

The make-up of this class will change dramatically between now and NSD. And while I might understand some cause for concern at this point,
ButchCo. has proven themselves to be excellent spotters of talent, and also experts at shuffling the deck so to speak. I mean do I have to
remind anybody how Butch closed a few months ago with Kongbo, Warrior, and Byrd. Not to mention a back stretch commit by Callaway.

I'm as critical minded as the next guy, and if we were talking about any of the previous 3 regimes I'd be raising hell at this point. Butch is building
momentum and people are talking about UT, Orange Carpet day was headline news all over the country for crying out loud. This class will see many
changes in the next 7 months, so I'm not going to worry about it. Butch and his staff have earned the benefit of the doubt IMO.
