Lady Vols Recruiting Info

Per the NCAA regulations and recruiting calendar, the first 5 days of July is a quiet period, during which the coaches can meet face-to-face with a player on campus. The rest of the month is designated as evaluation or dead periods, during which time the coaches may not meet with potential recruits.

Recruiting Calendars | NCAA.org - The Official Site of the NCAA
[The July calendar is the 2015-16 link in the upper right.]

The Westchester Hoopers are scheduled to play in The Battle in the Boro in Nashville, July 10-13. July 10-12 is an evaluation period during which the coaches can watch the tournament but not meet with the players. July 13 is a dead period and the coaches may not attend the tourney.

National Exposure Basketball

Unless Ms. Patterson wants to make a trip to Knoxville during July 1-5, there isn't much the coaches can do to accommodate her with a meeting in Tennessee. More agitation and coach-bashing for no reason. :banghead2:

Exactly, posters took it and ran with it....it was clear the poster wanted to get us riled up with the "FACT" our coaches were refusing to accommodate a top recruit....any poster with common sense would think/know that wouldn't be the case with ANY college coach that's trying to recruit a top player!

I think that removes Westbrook from us as well then, to my knowledge they have talked about attending the same school and Oregon is Westbrook's home state

FWIW, Westbrook is currently not considering Oregon. This can obviously change.. but as of right now, she's not considering the Ducks.

Westbrook final 9 schools are Oregon State, Washington, USC, Tennessee, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Rutgers, Louisville and Maryland.

Thanks for the clarification. Are there other recruits playing in tourney? Like Harrison? I would love to attend some games! Any information will be greatly appreciated.

That website lists the teams that are committed to play and the venues. If you know what teams potential recruits play for, you can look them up.

My understanding on Westbrooks is that she is more toward leaving Oregon for college. In one interview she said she was looking to leave the home state.

She narrowed them that quick last week she had like 11 right? Based on this like I really like our chances (I think Vandy and UCLA are truly the only threats) Not counting out Louisville but they are loaded all around.

She is from Indiana so the determination could be whether she wants to stay close to home. That Purdue coach is a good recruiter and of course Louisville adds and subtracts everyday. She seemed enthused by the Tennessee offer so hopefully she will come our way. Decision she says is late August.

Dana Evans
"I'll probably narrow my list to 10 or five teams, then decide by the beginning of my senior year. There aren't really any schools I want to commit to right now. It gets a little overwhelming at times, but it's exciting and fun, and I'm enjoying the process.''

She's already visited UofL. In home visits with WV, OKST, UofL. Definitely don't count out UofL. I'm really surprised ND is not on her list as they are in her back yard. I hope we get a HV scheduled soon and put her on the calendar for an official visit!

Does anyone know how many scholarships we would have available and if you had to guess, who do you think is the first person to verbally commit (to any school) and who do you think is the first to commit to UT? The players I want are; (In the order)

Patterson, Dodson, Hayes, Evans, Harrison, KK and Ursin. (Because of her size I don't think we will offer McKinney right now, I think we will probably wait to see if we land the 6'3"/6'4" Post players first)

I like Boothe but I don't know if I like her with the bunch I have selected

I think Maya Dodson's list was released a week or so ago. Tennessee and South Carolina were the only SEC schools along with Maryland, UConn, Stanford and I forgot the other two. I was surprised UGA was not on that list.

If everybody returns in 2017 we'll have six scholarships to give. Russell, Deshields, Middleton, Cooper, Dunbar, Harris, Green, Nared, and Jackson would be back or coming in to play.

To them you would like to add two post players and a point guard and wing. If Deshields or Russell were also leaving early you would need to add two more.

If I could pick the class I would take Evans, Boothe, Patterson, Hayes, and Harrison. I think Harrison is underrated just like Izzy was in the rankings. Evans may be the best point guard in the 2017 class and Boothe may be the best player. Patterson has the potential turn into the best player. I really like Hayes also. If we can't get Boothe then Dodson is certainly a great player as well.
I am kind of down on Oregon players don't think their high school programs have reached the quality of states like Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, etc. The Oregon players we have on the team have never been able to play to their national ranking at least up to this point.

Yes now I remember that she posted her list at USA basketball.

If you only have 7 or 8 players, then I would think you would want a class of 5. If you have a class of 6, that causes a lot of imbalance in class size going forward. Even if both Russell and DeShields elect to enter the draft, leaving only 7 players for the next season, 5 new recruits gives you 12 players, which is plenty. The 2018 class looks outstanding, so you'll want room without using all 15 scholarships, as that leads to too little playing time for subs.

Would definitely create huge problems if they left early because you really don't want to take more than five freshmen. Green will be a junior so even though she is in the 2017 class it want cause an imbalance. I really don't think we would take more than five unless someone was willing to redshirt which isn't happening much these days unless there is an injury.

If everyone returns you have seniors Deshields, Russell, Middleton, and Dunbar so still five scholarships for 2018.

13-15 should never expect playing time to begin with. And frankly speaking, if players like Middleton, Jackson, Dunbar and Cooper (and to a lesser extent, Jaime Nared) don't show significant improvement next season, then Holly would be smart to recruit over them for 2017 if there are incoming players that can play their positions more productively.

They will be losing a lot of players after 2017-18, so if the 2018 class is deep, then that shouldn't hurt their recruiting.

I like your choices.... However, the decision for McKinney is probably due to her ability to play wing or the #2 guard verses Forward or #4 ??? Maya is the only commit listed as a wing or maybe Patterson as a #3/#4???? But she is in the top 40 so why would you hesitate??? Seems like a no brainer since we have six scholarships available! You never know how the athlete will develop...

The guard for Syracuse that killed our guards was rated in the 90's in her class...but what a find!

I vote for giving anyone in the state of Tennessee that is listed in the top 100 a scholarship....Just because (YOU MIGHT GET SOMEONE BETTER) :banghead2:

Amb3096 ! You are 100% correct about Middleton, Jackson, Dunbar and Cooper. Note other then DeShields our backcourt is a major problem, That`s why i said it was very important to get one of the top guards in the class of 2016.

This year (2016) We will have 11 Players that can contribute! This leaves us -4 available scholarships.
Some are concerned that we might have too many players if we sign 5 or 6 players for 2017!!

With three seniors for (2016)..Carter, Reynolds, and Nunn...plus the (-4) available. We at the most could sign 7 new recruits for 2017.

IMAGINE if DD and Mercedes leave early! That leaves us with 7 experienced players for 2017. And now 9 available scholarships. Can you imagine playing with another recruiting year like this one and no DD or Mercedes!!:thud:

Even if you sign 5 or 6 GOOD TOP #50 recruits..The numbers are still workable! And IMO that would be the only reason DD and Mercedes would stay and try and win a national Championship.

Even if you sign 5 or 6 for 2017....No matter what DD and Mercedes does for 2017. (play or not) there would still be 5 scholarships available for 2018.

So if you can get a good player now or later? You better get them when possible!:)

The plan has to be to sign five as that puts us up to 14 with five seniors leaving the next season. We would still have 6 scholarships.
