#9 Class 24/7 Sports

the other thing to consider here is....they got 1 kid to flip from South Carolina, and each and every one of them are kids this staff has targeted.

i'd be more concerned if that wasn't the case. but if you say " i want that kid" and you go get him, then i say mission accomplished.

its so sad the these recruiting services have made fans into star gazers.

I use to not really care about recruiting rankings, just trusted the coaches. Then Daj put a ton of work into seeing the effect recruiting rankings have on predicting the winner of a game. I've looked over his numbers, I've tried to argue them, but at the end, the team with the higher 4 year recruiting avg wins 70% of the time. From the BCS to today only 1 team has won the championship without a top 10 4 yr average, OU in 2000. If we win this year we will be the lowest ranked 4 yr team over that same time span.

If Clemson wins last year (and they were very close) they're 4 year average would be outside the top 10.

It's not impossible.

Also I think our 2016 team is kind of unique because we took such large classes in 2014 and 2015. So while our 4 year average might be outside the top 10, the majority of our 2-deep in 2016 will be from 2 consecutive top 5 classes.

Here's the problem:
The successful numbers are based on after the fact.
I believe the final numbers do give a decent indication. (70%)
The problem is, we have people debating over a class not determined for another 7 months, judging kids that haven't yet played their best hs football.
All a little silly at this point and yes, I'm including myself.

My take on all the rankings of players is this.. Remember, I'm just a fan of the sport..

I believe you can have two players with the same athletic abilities and intangibles..

One player is well coached in techniques, attends the camps, becomes visible and on the radar..

The other player is not as well coached, does not get to attend camps and is off the radar so to speak.

A good evaluation of second player and a coach may see his potential and upside based off his film and natural abilities and instincts.. Also With personal evaluation.

Some high school coaches I have witness could not teach any more technique than me.. Some are phenomenal. If CBJ and staff sees a player they believe they can develop, he may be a 3* when he signs with the program, with 4-5* intangibles with proper coaching.. Second year in the college program and you may see this happen..

Just my opinion on all this.

Also, I think the more popular 4-5* players are waiting to commit based on wanting their day to shine with the hat chosing and all.. JMO

I lot of coaches recruit this way. Petersen was an expert at this at Boise, one of the reasons people think Washington will blow up this year even tho they haven't had great recruiting classes. Pinkel did this at Mizzou too. He made his recruits play basketball on visits to see their footwork, eye hand coordination, and conditioning in a way they haven't been focusing all their training on (40 yd dash, shuttle drill, etc).

IMHO the difference is Butch's system didn't look good with low ranked players and has been looking better with the higher ranked talent he brings in. It appears his system needs top talent to succeed in the SEC. Take some project guys every year that have that spark, see what they become, but at the end of the day your project guys will be going up against 4 and 5* guys at Bama, UF, and UGA.

Why is our class rated so low on rivals? It's always the most consistently accurate recruiting ranking.

I just clicked directly on 2017 TEAM RECUITING RANKINGS.

I didn't know there was another way to look at it?

I think what he's saying is UT is ranked 6 or whatever based on quantity. UT has more commits than anyone else thus racking up more points.

If you look at the average ranking (quality) then UT is a bit further down. Would you rather have 20 dimes or 10 quarters?

As Charger mentioned, it's a bit pre-mature at this point as it's only June. For the record, if you look at that "awful" class of 2013 you'll see some players you might recognize!...and will lead us to ATL this season.

Don't get too caught up in subjective recruiting rankings. Some players don't pan out while others exceed expectations. A lot will happen to the players over the next 5 years.

I get caught up in the fact that Alabama and Ohio State rack up 4 and 5 star players and do nothing but win. So there is some correlation there.

That's a good point. There is some correlation. However, it's only June. Player will get added, dropped, flipped, etc.

UT just needs to keep adding the right mix of talent. I don't want to see UT have the #1 class because they signed (4) 5* WR's & (3) 5* Safeties.

Yeah I get what he's saying. But my question wasn't about the quality of our class, but instead why Scout and 247 have us listed #6 and why rivals has us at 29. Even though rivals has all our new players listed as committed. It doesn't make sense to me. I don't see that kind of disparity with other teams.

Seriously, you will not get a profound answer.
I would go with the genital wart comment before exhausting an exuberant amount of time.

You may also want to pay attention to their stars both before and after top tier programs show interest.
Not offer but show interest.
We all drool over the ranking sites but it's often the cart leading the horse.

Because you're trying to make sense out of nonsense.

They haven't updated their rankings. And neither has ESPN.

So stop trying to act like this is an actual dilemma. It isn't. You just think it is.
