June 18, 2016 -- The Day the 2017 Signing Class Arrived -- Analysis of Impact

Calm down man.
There was no 2 star, we have already signed some 4's.
There is a good chance that a few of these guys also get the usual bump.
Fant was already a 4 star but dropped only because of an injury.

But bump or not, they are the same players. Nothing magical happens to them with another star?
We will not have the best class in the country but it will do well.
As an article posted earlier stated, given where our team ranks vs where our classes rank, our staff develops better than most.
We'll be ok.

Daj's numbers show that recruiting rankings absolutely do matter. The team with the higher 4 year recruiting average wins 70% of the time. This group of signees isn't getting that done. Look at these guys' offer sheets and it's no surprise they picked UT over UK, MD, and Louisville. But I guess everyone will fall back on the Dooley "diamond in the rough" or point out the one 3* player Butch has turned into a star over 3 years

Don't think CBJ would jeopardize his future by signing mediocre talent, he obviously feels confident about these prospects.

Yes it does matter and it always has. People like to point to that five-star bust that never panned out or that two star player that ended up making it to the NFL Hall of Fame, but a team full of 5 Stars will always beat a team full of two stars.

Where it gets a little fuzzy and subjective in my opinion is the top 10 to 15 rankings. If you recruit in the top 10 every single year then you should have a shot to win the championship.

If you're recruiting in the top 10 every single year then things like player development, coaching and diamonds in the rough can factor into making you a better or worse team than what your ranking showed.

Would like to add a 5 star RB, since Hurd and Kamara will probably leave for the NFL after this season

These kids that are highly rated are looking for schools that are producing NFL talent and that is not something we have been able to claim the past two years. That will change after this year. If we can show results on the field too, the sky's the limit.

With that being the current state we are in, Butch is doing a hell of a job recruiting and has proven that he has the ability to identify talent that others have not identified yet.

This is true and the truth we have to deal with is even though UT has the highest recruiting budget in CFB, only 2 of Butch's 4 classes have been in the top 10. Bama has more 5*s riding the bench than we have starting. The 2017 class will be the most telling of Butch's career. He can't recruit on immediate playing time or battling for a starting job, he can't recruit on putting talent into the NFL since the draft happens after signing day. He'll have to recruit on the culture at UT which has taken a hit nationally and his record of winning championships. If Butch doesn't win big this year then I'm afraid he won't be able to bring in the talent to ever win big

On mobile, so no multi quote.
So please, whoever the b.s spin artist that started with "people like to" as a reply to your post, can pay even closer attention.

I never once said recruiting doesn't matter. I said our class will get bumps making it higher rated than just 3 star.
I also didn't say a freaking thing about diamonds in the ruff.

We have NFL talent scouts helping make the picks and they have pulled through really well so far.

My post was entirely about what ranking we would end up with, not making lemonade out of lemons.

I don't know either of you and have never had an issue with "ya'll" but let me set the record straight real quick-
If you 2 are the gloom and doom type that always want tell everyone we're screwed, have a blast.

Do not however, use one of my posts by changing every single meaning 100% using spin to promote the Eeyore
Agenda.
Just make your own freaking posts.

Thanks in advance.

Ummm, lol just a heads up dude, not to interrupt your incoherent babble but I didn't even read your post and was merely agreeing with what 08 said.

But I've never been called as "BS Spin Artist" before so that's pretty cool. It'd be a great name for a DJ.

If you didn't read my post, probably not a great idea to agree with someone responding to it?
Seems like common sense?
The advice much like the DJ names are free though.

Tennessee has a great tradition of sending players to the NFL and CBJ will continue that tradition starting this year.
Tennessee ranks eighth all time in draftees with 337.
Tennessee ranks seventh 0ver the past twenty years with 106 players drafted, twenty first round picks and 36 second round picks.

Coaches send players to the NFL, not programs. The coaching that prepared the 90's UT players for the pros is gone. Right now Butch and his coaches have 2 years of no drafted players. No one he has recruited at UT has been selected in the draft. That will change next year, but it will be after signing day. I honestly think we need between 5-8 players drafted next year to remove this 2 year stink

C'mon man! The point is you can make it to the pros from Tennessee. :hi:

This comment is a little funny. Jones' first full recruiting class isn't draft eligible yet. Of course they haven't been drafted. I agree it will change starting this year.

Like Brian Darden or Bryce Brown or a safety like OJ Owens, or maybe a couple 5* WRs like Nueese Richardson and Kenny Oneal?

If Butch and this staff have proven one thing while they've been in Knoxville is they CAN identify players. I'll take a Jones 3* over a Kiffin 5* every day.

somewhere between you and D4H is a happy medium.

Butch needed this. People had been doubting his ability to bring them in with the Title 9 lawsuit swirling. Nice to see that we can still get recruits to pull the trigger even in the middle of all of this garbage. Solid talent. Class is looking nice.

Conversely, Ole Miss is suffering mightily so far with the threat of sanctions upon them. Class is currently at #30 :eek:lol:

make no mistake, Saturday was a good day.

This. There are things CBJ can be criticized for, game decisions, not holding leads etc...recruiting is not 1 of them. The guy has taken our program from the lowest point in my 39 years of life and consistently brought in top 15 classes. The players he has recruited are now 6 deep on the preseason all sec team. He knows talent, and seems to develop it other than maybe at receiver. Saturday was huge, and I am elated. GBO.VFL HUBANegas

momentum has to start somewhere, and if you could get 8 kids to say "yes" in a single day, then you have to believe that a good majority of the others that didn't commit, at least left Knoxville with a very favorable opinion of UT.

and no doubt that will play a role in their decision making process. we aren't going to get them all. but i'd be willing to bet there'll be a few more of those attendees that wind up on The Hill before all is said and done.

Really? I though his first recruiting class was 2013? Aren't juniors and redshirt sophomores draft eligible?

they are, you're correct. and the only one that declared was North. JRM, CS, JD etc....all returned.

the majority of that class will be on the field this year. and possibly 4-5 members of that class, not counting North, will be on NFL rosters next year.

so either way it's a misnomer to say "he hasn't sent anyone to the NFL yet". while technicallyl true, the implication is we don't have NFL talent, which is not true.

She clearly said his first full class also.
