We will, and some of these 3* will end up 4, as you said.

And some will end up like this:

A lot of you act like these young men won't or can't move up in the star rankings by next year. Plus, once the elite talent sees us dominating on the field this year they'll start committing to us. Just chill, it's only June.

This will easily be a top 5 class.

I personally think Higgins is a silent wanting to enjoy the process.

Top 5 (or 10 for that matter) classes in February aren't comprised with 14+ 3 stars. That's just the plain truth. No reason not to be pleased with this class, but no reason to blindly spin it, either. It is what it is.

Can't disagree. We will land plenty of elite prospects for sure in this class. We just have to be patient. At the end of the day though, the classes you recruit must average around 3.5 stars or you just don't have the talent to compete for a national title. So far, Tennessee has done that for the past 3 years. Need to continue that trend this year.

I wonder how many fans puffing out their chests pointing to us being #7 or whatever on 247 with 17 commits are the same ones who would discount a UK being in the top 10 early on when it was just stacking up 3* guys. Seems I remember a lot of that on here not long ago.

Are you the #70 Fred Weary?

Those and the ones who talk about culling the 3 stars when better recruits come along as accepted practice. But it's all wrong when somebody like AL or MI or OSU does it. I think the term is "hypocrite".

It would be better if the recruiting scores were ranked on the average rather than totals - just like the GPA not quality points is the important factor. The total number is fluff because obviously every coach is going to award as many scholarships as he has positions. Now, if you want to discuss how some schools seem to always have 25+ openings every year during recruiting ...

Good grief some people on here are just clueless. Recruiting has been struggling, if you cannot admit that then you're just sticking your head in the sand. Was today a good day? Yes. Is this class as fantastic right now as some of you WANT to believe? No. Here is why. While I am not a total stargazer like nationdom, they do mean something. We have mostly 3* guys. While I know Butch and the staff are great at evaluating talent, the fact remains Butch hasnt pulled in many big time recruits yet. Now if Johnson and Higgins would have kept their commitments then we would be talking.

Yeah we are in the top 10 but thats so,ely based on total commitment numbers. Hopefully more higher ranked guys will join this class and make it great. But some of you need to stop acting like this class is spectacular right now and Butch is just crushing it.

Butch has proven he knows three stars better than you. 😛

And when it's wrong for them to do it and it happens anyway? Round and round we go. :loco: You don't have to enjoy it but it's happening.

Butch hasn't done **** yet. Now I do believe that we win the natty this year but if that doesn't happen or at least a playoff appearance, Than butch has a whole lot of coaching up to do.

How about this...Butch is just filling the class as his attention needs to be on UT winning at least the SEC this year and using that to secure an NFL gig. All the 3* won't matter as he'll be gone. Crazy idea? Maybe.

I've actually thought about that exact scenario. He's going all in to win it this year than leave. Great minds think a like.

You're confused. Jones has rebuilt a nationally recognized sports team from one of it's lowest levels, back to being discussed in "the conversation".
What we don't know is if that's his limit or if can reach the pinnacle.
So "hasn't done ****" is completely inaccurate.
At least for nationally recognized name.
Maybe for an Internet poster that has done nothing in life but criticise others accomplishments? Just a question, not an insult.

Butch absolutely deserves credit for the rebuild of the roster if nothing else. The media hype alone at least shows UT is relevant again. I may not agree with some of the things he did to get there, but he's done the job.

I imagine that if great minds do, then the same would apply for small minds?
Once again, don't take that personally, that was clearly a scientific query.

Honestly, that's all I asked for.
Let him do the rebuild then judge game day coaching afterwards.

We've reached that point and I'm completely on board with now judging the other.

It does however, strike me funny that the same posters that assured me he couldn't rebuild, are the exact same posters predicting failure now. Coincidence? Maybe, but what are the odds number guys?

Butch would be Greg Schiano 2.0 in the NFL.

Butch had it set up nicely IMO. Tradition rich school, rabid fan base, huge amount of playing time to offer recruits. I think it was set up to succeed if a guy was willing to put in the work. The man did. Now can he sustain recruiting TOP recruits like that without the playing time angle? Can he continue getting recruits and families to buy into the family atmosphere while cutting guys loose? Possibly. That's the only thing I'm not sold on just yet. Where I'm sitting, it looks like recruiting has changed a bit for Butch.
