Not necessarily bud. We still ain't done yet either. Some of you'll are so negative on here & look for the worst! What if we get a couple of 5 star recruits to go along with what happened today?

That overrides what 4 star recruits that any other teams may get. I bet we still stay in the top 10 no matter what & possibly make the top 5 in the end.

If we close out with higher ranked players we won't. Gibbs, Higgins, Chandler, and Smith will all be Vols me thinks. Those are all top 100 players with 3 of them 5 star players to boot.

I will say this though.....I think that for the most part Butch and staff are done taking tweeners in this class....guys who will need a red shirt year to develop in other words. I also won't be at all surprised if some commits "rethink" Their decision this winter with spots filling up.

Good grief some people on here are just clueless. Recruiting has been struggling, if you cannot admit that then you're just sticking your head in the sand. Was today a good day? Yes. Is this class as fantastic right now as some of you WANT to believe? No. Here is why. While I am not a total stargazer like nationdom, they do mean something. We have mostly 3* guys. While I know Butch and the staff are great at evaluating talent, the fact remains Butch hasnt pulled in many big time recruits yet. Now if Johnson and Higgins would have kept their commitments then we would be talking.

Yeah we are in the top 10 but thats so,ely based on total commitment numbers. Hopefully more higher ranked guys will join this class and make it great. But some of you need to stop acting like this class is spectacular right now and Butch is just crushing it.

When Butch gives me reason be worried about recruiting I'll be worried. Maybe he doesn't get 5 5* players every year but he's obviously got on eye for talent. Some of you guys blow my mind with the negativity.

If we are in this same situation on signing day, then yes, this won't get it done. Remember though, Most quality classes have about half of their players that need development and my be lower rated. I would bet every penny I had that this class has some fantastic silent commits from the top 100 in it.

Disagree. Butch can cut kids loose to make room for higher ranked prospects if he wanted too. Half of these commitments may not even sign with us considering it's still way early in the recruiting process. Higgins, Smith, Gibbs, Stevens, Chandler will all wait it out and enjoy the process but that's 4* and 5* instate talent right there (Not counting Gibbs) so you're still looking at an Top 10 finish regardless. Butch is doing exactly what he's supposed to do. Playing it smart but also making room for better players that want to come on board if they want in even if it means cutting kids loose later on in the process.

It appears to be following a similar script to last year: the coaches land commits from lots of solid players early to fill positions of need, freeing them up to fight for the super-elites. This was a good day.

Two of the commits (Henderson and Bumphus) are 4-stars on at least one site, Theo Jackson is .8789 (.89 is the 4-start threshold on 247), and two others, Fant and Lawson, have been making noise lately, and are good candidates to jump in the rankings this summer or fall. This was an impressive single-day haul.

As bad as I hate to say it, I agree. But This early in the recruiting process, its sometimes more about quantity than quality. I do however really like some of the lower ranked kids right now, especially Fant and Henderson. But to be quiet honest, some of these offers have me scratching my head right now. Hopefully we will gain some ground this fall and add some big timers to this class. Go Vols!
