The stars aren't there today, but I think we have at least 2-3 guys committed now who will get bumps. Butch is great at evaluating talent.

Plus, I think orchestrating this many commitments at once has a strong effect on the upper-tier guys who are on campus right now AND it makes it easier for the staff to hone in on their top targets down the stretch.

I know a lot of people don't like Butch's strategy of getting early commitments and then trimming the fat as we approach February, but this is the last cycle where it will be necessary IMO. The program still hasn't quite "arrived" and Butch is still selling guys on the idea of a big season and a permanent turnaround for the Vols.

Good points. We have to win next year and Butch can upgrade the class.

Hopefully the momentum from today gets the ball rolling with some of the bigger fish. It will also be interesting to see if all of these guys who committed today are still members of this class come signing day. Butch certainly has the track record of "gitshirting" certain commits to make room for higher rated guys.

Would it have felt less hollow if Gray had waited to commit today?

Honest question? I think between 3-5 of these guys are going to get bumped. Also, I believe that the majority of the commits today are ones that staff were actively pursuing and aren't ones that they'll cut loose regardless of who might commit later.

People are really complaining about today? Ridiculous.

We got some great players today.

For the people whining about 4*

Bumphus, Lawson, and Taylor are ranked a 4* by at least one service. So stop with all that talk.

Wow, I can't turn my back for a second, holy ish! I will just leave this here, cumulative

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM!!!!!!

Exciting day. I'd be interested for folks who are better talent evaluators than me to explain whether they think today's haul was a great one or just a good one. I'm not a star gazer when it comes to individual players but I am in the aggregate. You gotta land a lot of 4 - 5 stars to win. With that said, will these guys blossom into higher star ratings (across multiple services)? Which of these guys are steals?

Really happy we added some instate talent. Wasn't many on the list to start the day. While we are now ranked #9 on the composite the average * rating would have us around 25th. (Looking at just the top 50 schools on 247).

not gonna lie that Trey Coleman kid has a nasty Highlight tape. I know thats the point of highlight tapes but the kid is clearly very explosive. Same high school as Cam Robinson i think as well.

So hypothetically, there are two recruits with identical measurables and identical potential. The first had the good fortune to go to a high school that developed players and was born to a family who could afford camps. The second was not blessed with either. How do the services rate them? If we land player two, and Georgia lands player one, who did better? How does landing player one or player two affect your win/loss record?
