Lady Vols Recruiting Info

this is overlooked

This was not a Rudy team. This was the #4 team in the preseason rankings.

"Having the worst W-L record in school history, barely qualifying for the NCAA tournament and losing by 20+ points in the E8 to a team making the E8 for the first time in school history" would not be considered as an "achievement bullet" for any coach who sets a high bar.

Jefferson and McGraw off the top of my head plus Stevens and cooper so far this year.... I do love butch though and think he is doing an awesome job

I'm sorry Vol beast, I guess I could have been more clear in my post....I was answering your question about Darth not realizing Butch doesn't get in state talent all the time.

Summitt was great but we need a coach better than she was. She thrived in the early days of women's BB, and her philosophy of defense and rebounding--which Warlick hews to--is very outdated. We need a smart, charismatic, tough-minded new coach--and quickly. I chuckle at posters who still say that Warlick "needs to grow." She's pushing 60, people--she's not going to grow as a coach. She is what she is.

You do realize that Butch misses on some great players he wants in the state of Tennessee don't you?

I do, thanks. I also realize football recruiting is a completely different animal than basketball recruiting with around 20-30 players instead of 2 or 3. The bigger point you seem to have missed is Butch is doing a much better job of selling the importance and pride in playing for the state school with local recruits than Coach Goodenuff, despite the program he inherited being at a much lower point (about where I see the Lady Vol program slipping by the time the current talent dries up and the next coach takes over).

But maybe I am being too hard on her. She did bring in Meme and Middleton, who I understand will be the team saviors next season without Carter to eat up their minutes....

I know it will be hard to replace Andraya's 4.8 ppg, 35% shooting, and 25% 3P shooting in 26 mpg. I hope MeMe and Alexa are able to fill that enormous void.

Keondra McKinney drives for a layup. Looking for her to have a big season at Knox Fulton this coming season.

I have no idea what happened to Middleton. She can shoot and has high basketball IQ, but it like she plays very passive and will not look for her shot. If she becomes more aggressive and quit playing scared, I think she can help this team a lot this upcoming season. For as Jackson, she must develop an offensive game this summer and off-season with her height and athleticism she should be able to be crucial in the mid-range game. We will need both of these young ladies to step it up a lot this season.

It's hard to find any information on this young lady. If she's an undersized Post or Forward, I doubt Tennessee goes after her. Tennessee usually goes for height and athleticism. With the possibility of signing KK, Patterson, Cooks and Dodson, I can see why they might be holding off as of now if she's not on their radar. Have anyone seen her play?

The SEC IS TOOO FAST FOR MIDDELTON> IF THEY PLAY AGAINST PPL WHO ARE NOT ALL ATHLETIC THEN SHE WILL DO FINE, BUT WHEN MORE ATHELTIC GUARDS GET ON HER SHE STRUGGLES

Considering they COMBINED for 4 ppg, 36% shooting and 19% 3P shooting, you are certainly wise to get your hopes up...

Carter, Middleton, and Jackson's per-minute averages look like this. Not much difference, but Middleton's numbers are slightly better except in turnovers. The numbers in parenthesis for the first couple of groupings are if Middleton and Jackson played Carter's minutes.

Regardless of who the player is, the LV's simply have got to have better guard play next season.

Points per minute:
Middleton - 0.25 (7 ppg)
Carter - 0.18 (4.8 ppg)
Jackson - 0.16 (4.2 ppg)

Assists per minute:
Middleton - 0.11 (2.9 apg)
Carter - 0.06 (1.57 apg)
Jackson - 0.05 (1.3 apg)

Steals per minute:
Middleton - 0.05
Carter - 0.05
Jackson - 0.03

Rebounds per minute:
Middleton - 0.09
Carter - 0.09
Jackson - 0.09

Turnovers per minute:
Jackson - 0.05
Carter - 0.06
Middleton - 0.10

Maybe Butch will help Holly sell TN

Not her fault. I truly believe she could have been a star if she'd gotten proper coaching.

Middleton is productive--and should have got more playing time last year.

Not her fault. I truly believe she could have been a star if she'd gotten proper coaching.

I literally have seen nothing from her in 4 years to suggest that. She was not a confident player, and was content to hustle on defense and treated the ball like a hot potato when Tennessee was on offense.

By all accounts, she was exceptional in all facets of her life, except as a basketball player.

Middleton does not have a aggressive personality and plays way to passive when on the court. She has one of the best shots on the team, but she is very reluctant when she shoots and you can't be that way. If you miss a couple you have to keep firing. I think if she had the right mindset she could easily be a 35 percent three point shooter and that is what we need from her.
She reminds me of Hubbs on the men's team a player that has a lot of talent, but seems to lack the mental fire to make it happen.

So Volfan, is it your conclusion that Middleton will never change? I haven't seen her play very often, and I was just wondering.

A quote from the original post when I initiated this thread:

"Someone the other day suggested starting a post with updated recruiting information. I claim no inside information, but have put together a list of the current roster (broken down by year of graduation) along with a number of recruits who have either expressed an interest in the Lady Vols, have been noted as being recruited by the Tennessee staff, or have otherwise been linked with the program as potential recruits.

If anyone has any additional information, feel free to add to it or contact me by pm and I will update this post. I will try to keep the status updated on a fairly regular basis."

While I appreciate the interest in the thread. it appears that several have elected to use this thread to express their opinion about the quality/capabilities of our current players and the staff to the exclusion of the original intent of the post. While I obviously have a lot of opinions of my own, I am not sure that I see any helpful purpose in constant expression of opinions about the failings of our staff and current players in a thread for which the original (and, hopefully, the continuing) purpose was to allow everyone who chooses to look to obtain and share information about upcoming student/athletes who have an interest in playing for the Lady Vols and who may be considered by the coaching staff.

Our gracious moderator, Freak, has already seen fit to carve out one particular discussion that wandered far afield from the recruiting information that was/is the purpose of this thread. Perhaps those of you who wish to bellyache about the quality/capabilities of our current players and staff would consider starting your own thread to do so. It really isn't hard. There is a button at the top of the first page entitled "New Thread". Just click on it and input to your heart's content!
