Releasing our Derek Dooley hatred

dduncan, thanks for the historical summary of DD at UT. While it was painful to read, it was a good account of the Dooley years. I admit to supporting that guy until the KY debacle, to the chagrin of other Vol fans. Like I told a GA fan from Athens last week: Derek Dooley was thrust into a position for which he was ill-prepared to manage; plus, he just wasn't head coach material. I did like to listen to Barbara. :hi:

His years here were the worst in modern history for the Vols. How was that enjoyable? I despise his idiotic ass and hate he ever collected one paycheck from this school.

Well somebody is having a case of the Monday's on a Tuesday....

Relax, he's gone and I will assure you never coming back.

I'm still baffled the we hired a guy with a LOSING RECORD...FROM CONFERENCE-USA. UT should have found an interim head coach instead of settling with Doolander. It's got to be one of the worst hires ever for a major P5 school. And guess what? Kiffin isn't far behind that Dooley in that category.
Thank Hamilton for it. He was as incompetent at AD as the people he hired.

Kippy Brown should have been the interim hire.

2011 was the only year Dooley didn't sign any O-linemen. Stop trying to make it sound worse than it was. Dooley was brought in to clean house and be more of a parent than coach while we were still under NCAA probation. The top talent wants and needs to be recruited using sometimes questionable tactics. Dooley and UT couldn't do that at the time. We can and probably are doing it now so we can bring in top talent.

2012. He signed 5 on 2011.

We could win the next 10 national championships and I would still hate Dooley more than I love anybody that has ever been associated with Tennessee.

No. Dear God, no. -100% no. This would have set us back even farther.

The hire after LK left wasnt ideal but it was MH's only option. Still it comes back on him since he's the one that didnt protect us from his potential departure.

His only option???
How about any second rated division coach would have jumped at the opportunity. So how about hiring one with a winning record.

He was in over his head and he knew it. Mike Hamilton is the one that hired him and deserves the lions share of the blame. I don't hate Dooley.

um......that's who did.

Well, that rules Kippy out since he only had 1 HC job and that was with the XFL and he only went 5-5.

Considering we were only days away from NSD, who were his other options?

(1) He ran off a good defensive co ordinator. (2) He followed that up by hiring a bad defensive co ordinator. (3) He caused us to lose to Missouri in overtime (4) His treatment of the players caused them to give a lack luster effort against Ky. and lost our winning streak against them. That loss caused us to not be bowl eligibly. (5) His arrogance towards the local high school coaches caused high school players to go out of state to play football, rather than U.T.

Okay I'll say it again. Any coach from a lower division would have taken the job, pick a name out of a hat. But use ones with winning records.
But this national Signing Day myth has gone on long enough.
If you're going to give a coach multiple years to fix a program, then you don't hurry and hire him trying to save one class.
History has already proven, interim is the way to go if you can't get who you want in the time span you're given.

can you name a interim coach that was there for a year until a new coach was found?

Why did do you separate my post anyway? I said any coach from a lower division with a winning record.

So why did you cut off the winning record part to add your little "um" comment?
Or do you believe that Dooley had a winning record?

Dool had one winning season of 3. Who else did Hammy interview?

We did hire a coach from a lower division. LA Tech might be D1 but its a mid major therefore lower. At least he had D1 experience. Not much but some.

He was hired mid January 2010 which is right dead in the middle of recruiting season. That's not when you hire a coach - that's when you're desperate for a coach.

you had two different question. I separated them to address them individually
