Releasing our Derek Dooley hatred

I stumbled across some youtube videos of his "greatest hits" yesterday and was completely dumbfounded. He was straight up crazy. No wonder we were a laughing stock. I will admit I was all in at the time, but looking back, WTF?

Mike Hamilton could not have done more to destroy the entire Athletic Dept at the University of Tennessee if you had hired him and made that his top priority. Hiring losers like Kiffin and Dooley to replace 30+ years of Tennessee grads representing the football program with class. The hiring of Todd Raleigh, the way he handled the entire track program, the way he handled the dismissal of Bruce Pearl, just the clueless way he handled the entire athletic program. Good riddance to Hamilton and anyone he hired.

It's taken this many years just to get the stench of Dooley and Hamilton off the football program. Looking forward to enjoying the next few years but to be honest, I keep expecting something to go wrong to ruin it all again.

Couldn't have said it better. Hamilton's feeble attempt at running an AD was beyond pathetic. 90% of the blame for the last 10 years can be laid at his doorstep. What a LOSER! SO glad he is gone!!!!!

Relax. Dooley was not ready to Coach at SEC level but that's not his fault. He saw an opening applied and got the job. He did not hold Tennessee AD hostage to get the job.
We know from facts that he wasn't SEC level but there is no evidence to suggest he didn't try or slacked on job.
He built a good offensive line (4-5 starters in NFL right now). Patterson, Hunter and Rogers were all his WRs. His QB and his offense in 2012 were one of the most prolific passing offenses in Tennessee history.
I am not supporting Dooley and I think we were wrong to hire him in first place and then keeping him after KY loss was bad too. But he did build a great offense in 2012 and great hype surrounding program too.
Bottom line is if TN came to me today and offered HC job, I would take it too. No one thinks they are incapable. So Dooley saw the coaching job, applied for it and got it. He tried, didn't succeed and was fired. why so much hate ? Those who keep citing that he didnot sign a O-lineman in 2011 also fail to cite that he left behind 4 NFL starters for O-line for 2013. He did some good, he did some bad. Move on.

Most of the line talent was recruited by Kiffin's staff and OL coach Pittman deserves most of the credit for coaching those guys up during the Dooley tenure.

Derek Fooley was a total disaster. Very low energy guy and a lightweight. He couldn't coach a pop warner team. SAD!

Honestly, for once, I don't think you're being negative enough.
Lightweight?
The man could sink anything faster than being tied to the heaviest anchor.

Fooley was a total disgrace to himself and his family. He is a very, very weak and ineffective coach. We should have fired him after the first season. Believe me folks, this won't happen again!

Agree with others about Hamilton. Not so much angry at Dooley. He was just a guy who took a job he was offered. He was obviously completely ill-equipped to have any success in that job. But he never should have been offered it in the first place.

I don't have nearly as much of a problem with Dooley as I do with his predecessor. Dooley is not a curse word to me like Kiffin is.

For me, too painful to think about agian. Looking ahead to 2016. Fuad Reveiz could provide his Top 999 least favorite moments before he got started with what he really thought.

I agree sir.
I just kept saying "who?" When he was hired. That should never happen at any major football program.

Putting aside the obvious, I hate that no Tennessee coach will ever again be able to wear orange pants on game day. I liked that hat tip to the old days.

That SOB ruined orange pants.

This should sum up the Dooley error.

It's nothing I care to remember.
