Either Georgia or Bama, although I think we have a great shot at beating both. Not sold that Butch won't snatch defeat from the jaws of victory a couple times this year.

i think with the potential of our defense being as good as it might be, the chances of this happening drop significantly.

i think by the end of this season we'll all be thinking "man, if we had this defense last year...".

i still think part of CBJ's problem with his decision making was he felt like he had to protect the defense at times, and that affected a lot of what we did offensively.
and forced him to make some decisions he otherwise might not have.

either way, we're going to find out.

I've already posted it in many other Vol football threads but here you go:

We go 11-1. Only loss coming to Texas A&M on the road. We beat UF handily. We beat Georgia by 10+. We slide by Bama 3-7 point victory. The rest of the games should be a breeze.

I'm kind of concerned about our opener against a very experienced App State QB but I still think we win handily. We beat VT by 14+ in Bristol.

We are East champs & I predict we play Ole Miss in the SEC Championship game. No, not Bama or LSU. We beat Ole Miss by 7 & that bolts us into the playoffs. I'll say a #4 seed but possibly as high as a #3 seed.

I say we lose 1st playoff game though. It will come down to matchups. If we're #4 then we get #1 which will more than likely be Clemson. Don't think we can beat Clemson but we have the talent to do it. The other possible two teams is up in the air but Michigan, FSU, Ohio State, & Oklahoma are definite possibilities.

I just don't think we have favorable enough matchups against any of those teams except maybe Michigan. So, I say we finish with a 12-2 overall record after winning SEC championship game & losing 1st playoff game.

I'm still giddy about the Shoop hiring and believe he could do Butch's bidding in the close games we're certain to play vs our biggest rivals this year, UF, UGA and Bama. I think you may be spot on.

one can hope. but in reality the shoop hire does say this "the defense is his". i don't think there'll be any 2nd guessing or micro management. it should allow Butch to be more involved in the offense, which is his cup of tea to begin with.

so we'll see. im still saying 9-3. but capable of a lot more.

Don't understand why so many think we're losing to TAM this year. The program, by all accounts is in disarray under an "endangered" headcoach. They're hemorrhaging 5 star qbs and just haven't played to the level of their talent. I'm not saying it's a lock and we can certainly lose if we don't play well in a hostile environment. But if we're projecting games, and we are, this looks like one to put in the win column until further notice IMO.

The dreaded "sammich" game on the sked more than likely.

A&M will either have a job saving year or finish 4th or worse in the west. I betting on the later.

UGA while not "rebuilding" has questions, none bigger that breaking in a new coach.

UF still has holes.

Bama is the much more stable of the bunch but still has a couple things to work out.

12th man main reason. That place is loud & tough to play in. We are capable of winning there but I'm one of the ones predicting a close loss 30-31.

You do know they've yet to have a big win in that building?

Auburn, LSU, and Bama have gone into that building and had no problem beating them the last 3 years.

The venue has been anything but intimidating.

Sorta like Neyland the last 7 years.

Thanks for those stats but I still know that place is loud. Our crowd hasn't been as rowdy in recent years so A&M stadium is louder if not the loudest stadium in the SEC. It's been proven too by decibel meter analysis.

11-1 sole loss coming in college station. That game is after the teeth of our schedule and we have a lack luster game. If Dobbs is able to throw down field with more accuracy and we avoid major injuries, we're headed to Atlant to face LSU. BOOK IT

The dreaded "sammich" game on the sked more than likely.

The 4 game stretch of Florida, Georgia, TAM and Alabama is brutal for sure, so I get the timing of it. To be honest, I hadn't really considered thst aspect, was only thinking about the on-the-field circumstances. I will say this....they're awfully talented and you never know when things could come together for em. But right now, that just looks like a likely win to me.

I hate to agree in any way, shape, form or fashion with D4H....feeling a little nauseous just at the thought of it. But I did hear a TAM beat writer being interviewed on Swain's show a few weeks back and he said that as great a venue as theirs is and as great a crowd and fanbase that they have....for all that, they've pretty much lost all their "big games" at home over the last 3-4 years. Tifwiw.

Butch will be fired of that happens. That's losing the east without a doubt.

10-2 is the floor for this team.

BS. He ain't getting fired with a 9-3 record this year. Absolutely no way. Hell 6-6 or 7-5 wouldn't do it. Unless this title 9 BS blows up on him, he's back for 2017 no matter what.

You're probably right. The administration isn't committed to winning.

If they were he would be fired for failing to win the east with this team and this season.
