9-1-16? (Vols' season opener moved to Thursday)

The National Championship game will be on a work day. Fans of the teams that will ultimately play in that game will know approximately 10 days in advance and folks that really want to go - figure it out. Fans for this game were told 3 plus months in advance. Plenty of time for those that really want to go to figure it out.

You make a very good point.

For the level of anger I'm seeing regarding the date of the game being charged, I think it's a very valid point.

I get both sides of the argument. I guess I just like to watch the Vols on a Saturday and not have to worry about work the next day. That first weekend for me is like a holiday. I always enjoy the first Thursday night USCjr game as an appetizer and the other PAC12 game or whatever it may be, probably a Boise game on Friday night and then the main event on Saturday. I'm not psyched for Thursday, but it is what it is and I'm sure I'll be ready to go 9/1 at 7:30.

Someone should do a poll to see where everyone stands on this.

Home games draw approx. 90k UT fans, maybe 10-30k would consider going to a Nat'l Championship game. Plus I did not donate to get tickets to a non home game. Different situation completely. Oh, and I drive 7+ hours to get to Knoxville, IMO Ihave a right to be a tad upset for a Thursday game

GoVols105 is good at doing polls - I nominate him

Stupid comparison.

If you purchase season tickets, you must purchase the Appy St ticket. Purchasing the NC ticket is optional

Appy State is a recent FCS team that is just recently moved to the FBS and not a NC contender. NC is a guarantee huge school as well as, at the minimum the 4th best team in the country

You can lose the Appy St game and still be the NC. You cannot lose the NC game and be the NC.

Why are they doing this?

Won't there be tons of people from Tri Cities, Chattanooga and Nashville that won't be able to come now because its during the week? Plus, normal people even in Knoxville have to work during the day and aren't going to want to go home after work then come to the stadium.

Someone didn't think this through.

Was planning on coming down from OH. Thanks UT AD. *******s.

That is a little different than App State

Be careful typing words like 'stupid' and making the highlighted comment in the same post.

The magnitude of the game may be different but the circumstances people are using as an excuse to keep them from going to the Appy State game are the same.

It's literally 100% different. Any tickets and travel arrangements to the NC game would be purchased with full knowledge of what day the game was taking place. If circumstances dictated that you couldn't go, you obviously don't buy a ticket. The Appy St. game was advertised and sold to fans as a Saturday game and then changed after all the tickets were sold.

If you are going to say it's literally 100% different then there would be no similarities. Excuses about workdays, kids in school, hotel bookings, travel are the same. So, you're wrong.

Nobody would be making those "excuses" in the situation you're talking about. They simply wouldn't have bought tickets because they knew they knew they couldn't go to the game. That's my biggest source of frustration, the fact that the AD prioritizes a few extra eyeballs on TV ahead of doing right by the donation-making, season ticket-buying segment of the fanbase.

more chance of winning the NC by losing to Appy St than losing in the NC.

You can do it. Very difficult, odds weighed against you, and need some help but it can be done so no, its not as stupid as comparing the Appy St game to the NC game.
