9-1-16? (Vols' season opener moved to Thursday)

I can't believe people are complaining about this.

Are you people not fans of football in general?

There are so many good games that Saturday, as a football fan I'm glad we were moved. Now I can watch Auburn/Clemson and Alabama/USC without having to miss them just to watch our Vols destory an overmatched opponent.

Now the football fan in me gets to watch all the great games that Saturday.

Pretend for a second you're a season ticket holder in Memphis.

Uh, some of us actually like to attend games in person, and a pointless move to a Thursday is not in line with that.

well watch the game on TV like other people. Life will go on if you miss the home opener.

I guess you can't read any of the other posts I've made here.

I had already made arrangements for myself, my girlfriend, and two App State alum friends to attend a SATURDAY game.

My single may be up for sale. When you run a small business, you cannot afford to close on the 1st of the month. I'd be arriving and trying to scramble for parking around 6-6:30.

D4H this is one of your posts I actually agree with. I get that people have to rearrange their plans but it gives the Vols two extra days of rest and preparation for Battle at Bristol

People who don't see the problem with this can't possibly have purchased season tickets at an above street value (when including booster contribution) price and had to travel 3 hours plus to make it to a game.

But there also has to be some sort of fine print or disclaimer when said ticket holder purchases the ticket that things like this may happen correct?

Like I mentioned earlier, it was awfully nice of them to announce the move a couple weeks after they made sure they already had everyone's ticket money. If they are going to pull this crap, then honestly the game needs to be sold separate from the season tickets. I recognize that my work situation probably puts me in a tiny minority of people who live in Knoxville and will have no option but to miss the game. However, there are thousands of people who come here from out of town for the games who are going to be MASSIVELY inconvenienced at best, and many will likely have to stay home and just try to recoup what they can for their tickets.

Most of the complaints I read were about "tradition" and how playing on Thursday is beneath this program.

I was talking more about those folks than people with legit logistical concerns.

I read that. If you are in a tizzy over the date of the football game changing, you got bigger problems coming your way.

For those of you that forgot, we also played in the first FOOTBALL game of 2016, as well, in the Outback Bowl. We're getting our name atop of lots of lists. Hopefully we'll be the last game of the CFB year too.

No kidding.

Look, I guarantee you right now the phones at the UT ticket office are ringing off the hook.

Tennessee is different than Florida too. You guys probably have fans who travel to Knoxville for games that live in about eight different states.

I know the school has the right to do this.

What I am saying (and go look at my first post) is how long can you possibly expect season ticket holders to purchase tickets and pay ridiculous booster fees (out of love of school) when they don't even know when the heck the game is going to be played.

College football is the only sport like this.

Every other sport the time and date of the game is known months in advance and does not change except for an act of God.

My ticket renewal paperwork for this year says "game times subject to change". I suppose it's open to interpretation as to whether that should encompass moving the game to a different date altogether.

Even a Gator gets it. I live in Franklin so I will make the drive but I'm not sure my son can. He's in high school, has school and football practice. It's probably not a good idea for him to miss either and if he does and we drive back afterwards will he be worth anything on Friday for school or a game. There will be no tailgating which is a huge part of the experience. Having said that I also understand that my personal inconvenience is just that, personal, but I don't get the folks who are complaining about others concerns about the move. Now, if I were just planning to kick back in the recliner and watch the game on TV then it's no problem other than the perception that Thursday night games are for Vandy. JMO as always. Go Vols!

I can see what people who were planning to go to the game could be affected and pissed. Also some watching as some may have to work Thursday nights. Ect. I will probably be unaffected so Im fine with it. Two days sooner. GBO.

I'm fine with it because it's opening week and the season can start earlier now. But generally speaking, Thursday night games are bush league.

I'll even discuss this differently and use another game as an example of my overall point.

Take the Florida game. As a season ticket holder, there are two games you look forward to. Alabama and Florida.

Right now, you have no idea when the game will be played. Therefore, you have no idea what kind of preparations you need to make in order to attend. Now, those games are so big that I am sure most fans have prepared for anything. But, depending on where you are coming from noon, 3:30, or 7 is a big deal.

Because fine print solves any of those problems or makes this any better?

No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm just highlighting the fact that the disclaimer is there for people to actually know that the game time and date can actually change, and when it does they were warned.

It sucks, I get it. But it's not like UT does this on a frequent basis. It's just how things go sometimes and the ticket holder should be aware that things can change.

Really? Because I'm irritated that I wanted to see my favorite team play with some friends this fall I will have 'bigger problems'?

how old are you? life changes, and you roll with the punches. this is nothing to get irritated over. Get irritated over your car breaking down or noisy neighbors. Don't cry like a teenager because plans have to change. I am sure your friend and your girlfriend will get over it too.

True, but at least you do know that the game will be played on a Saturday as scheduled. Apparently our AD just wants us to clear our schedule for the whole damn week and show up whenever he sees fit to schedule the game.
