9-1-16? (Vols' season opener moved to Thursday)

The hysterics over "prestige" are asinine.

Clemson, Florida State, Oregon, Stanford all schedule Thursday or Friday games, and they've sniffed the National championship much more recent than we have.

Hell, LSU has done it twice and Auburn 3 times in the last dozen years. Alabama played Georgia State on a Thursday night just a few years ago.

Let's recap:

Pros:
-Football comes 2 days earlier
-Now we all get to watch the full slate of Saturday games
-Definitely a night game (not scorching hot)
-2 more days to prepare for Battle of Bristol

Cons:
-We're Tennessee so we shouldn't play on a Thursday?

Perhaps another con would be people like myself who have a busy work schedule during the week and are now going to be forced to miss the home opener. But what the hell do they care, they already got my money a few weeks ago. Similarly, pretty much anyone who lives outside Knoxville is going to have to sit this one out too.

Except for the fact Appalachian State isn't FCS any more.

I should reword that. I meant to type the only "Power 5 team vs another Power 5 team was Oregon State vs Minnesota."

I'll edit that.

(As for the second paragraph, was referring to the other games being played that day not including ours.)

We won 11 games as an FBS team last year.

Yeah, as mentioned above, that's a typo and will edit. I meant to type the only Power 5 team vs another Power 5 team.

Sorry, busy day and my mind's been elsewhere. A family member had to get surgery today, so that's been mostly dictating the day.

Didn't see posted yet, and didn't see details as to why.

You've got enough time to plan to take off. How much time do you need to plan to take off one day?

Some people have limited vacation that has already been planned for other things. That is VERY common. Don't be daft.

Or just simply have work schedules that are so busy at certain times of the year that taking time off and letting things slide simply isn't an option.

I told a friend a while ago (works in the Gator ticket office) that one of the reasons ticket sales are becoming a problem is the increasing (as if anyone thought it could get worse) power of television and that networks were the #1 customer, not the fan.

College football is the only sport I know of that the date and time of the game is not known until, in most cases now, the week before the game.

How the hell can anyone plan for that? There is a big difference between a 12:00 and 7:00 kickoff in terms of hotels, food, travel, etc.

Well, now in this case, people obviously have to ask off from work and some of those people will need to ask off for 2 days, not 1, and all the other stuff that comes with it.

And for what....to see Appy State?

This stuff can't last long.

Definitely not an easy trip since my son will have to miss a day or more of school if we make the trip as planned. On the bright side I did make a reservation at the Four Points Sheraton for just over $100 for Thursday night before they jacked their rates up.

I can't believe people are complaining about this.

Are you people not fans of football in general?

There are so many good games that Saturday, as a football fan I'm glad we were moved. Now I can watch Auburn/Clemson and Alabama/USC without having to miss them just to watch our Vols destory an overmatched opponent.

Now the football fan in me gets to watch all the great games that Saturday.

Well it isnt the dumbest **** for those of us who don't live in Knoxville and like to go to the games. I would have went for sure but now I have to decide if it is worth it to take off two days of work and my son missing a day of school for App State? I'm thinking I will probably be selling some tickets.

sell the f'ing tickets and stop crying...you're not contemplating brain surgery or some other life altering decision.
