Does Butch Leave UT After '16 season?

Guys, anyone who slightly pays attention to college football knows all about Urban Crier. When Tebow graduated and Florida had a down year, Urban Crier announced that he needed to spend time with his family and thus resign from head coach at U.F.
He was talked out of it and he coached another year. That season was another down year at Florida, so he resigned.
He sat home and waited for the T.O.S.U. "THE Ohio State University" job.
Well, fast forward a few years ahead and now Harbaugh is on the scene at Michigan. Either this year or next year, Michigan will begin to dominate the BIG 10, " The BIG 10 acutally has 12 teams in it but the northerners can't count"
ONce Harbaugh starts to dominate the BIG 10, Urban Crier will leave. He wants to win immediately and win alot. He does not like rebuilding teams on a 5 year rebuilding cycle.
Once Crier is gone, look for T.O.S.U. to come calling for bUTch......

Masterful troll job here.:compute:

He was once on the staff with the Tampa Bay Buc's.

Also, what NFL team would want Chip Kelly (Kil a delphia) or Steve Spurrier(Dead Skins) or Lou Holtz (Jets)???

When college coaches with the resume of a Spurrier, Kelly or Holtz fail in spectacular fashion at the next level, it makes perfect sense to suggest Butch Jones would get the call to the big leagues after one breakthrough year.

I don't necessarily disagree with your underlying point, Lawrence, but your logic is flawed.

NFL coaching isn't college coaching "just bigger." It's a different job, with different skill sets.

The college coaches who make a great transition to the NFL tend to be the X&O wonks and the Big Idea guys. Mike Leach could probably do well in the NFL, if he'd ever wanted to go. Pete Carroll did well with the transition.

But motivators, recruiters, trainers...the Woody Hayes and Steve Spurrier types...they don't make a good NFL coach, no more than some NFL coaches would make it in the college ranks.

They're simply different jobs.

I don't believe Butch would do well in the pros. But not because he's somehow a lesser coach than Holtz or Kelly. Instead, it's because of who Butch is. He's a prototypical college coach, a motivator, leader, trainer and recruiter.

If he loses more than 3 games hopefully he does leave. No excuses. Enough is enough! It'll just prove he cant even sniff a championship.

Butch Jones is a lesser coach than Lou Holtz or Chip Kelly, the numbers bear it out. You are what your record says it is.

I think Jones is your Ron Zook. He's stockpiling talent for the next guy to take the program to another level.

The Shoop hire is the first step in kicking it up a notch. That guy is an exceptional DC.

Not sure I agree with you here. To be fair, Ron Zook has zero head coaching experience before being head coach at Florida. Butch Jones has proven he can win at all stops prior to coming here. It may have only been western Michigan and Cincinnati before coming here, but he won at both of those places nonetheless. It seems he's also headed that way here.

Sorry but Jones is no Ron Zook

Yeah. LW is a good poster but I feel a bit of a troll job with that post.

Yeah, I can see why you WANT this to be true, you being a Florida fan and all.. I'll be very pleased when Butch proves you wrong,...I think starting this year. :)

He's a better coach than Holtz or Kelly, I'm banking...he just hasn't gotten to the point where he proves it yet.

To be fair, Zook was doomed to fail the day he was hired. But he did give national champ LSU their only loss in 2003, and went 2-for-3 against UGA.

But Zook was also known for mind numbingly dumb coaching decisions (clock management leading to the Banks Hail Mary TD in 2003), and blowing second half leads (Miami 2003, LSU and UT 2004).

Zook had no head coaching experience. Jones has proven he can win at whatever school he's at. He inherited a freakin dumpster fire and has done a tremendous job so far. He ain't Zook

Up to this point it's been true. Zook was gone after Year 3, and rightfully so.

Jones deserves an extra year based on the dumpster fire he inherited to prove the doubters wrong.

And what do you base that last sentence on, you being a UT fan and all? :)

He has Zookish tendencies under the headset at times.

He also recruits well like Zook.

Zook: 8-5 ... 8-5 ... 7-4. See the trend?

Jones: 5-7 ... 7-6 ... 9-4. See the trend?

That's what I base it on. He's clearly no Zook...and has (so far) unlimited upward slope.

Let's see how it goes in the next installment :)

I agree with you but if you look at the big picture of Jones's career so far, through 9 seasons as a college head coach his teams have either maintained their win total from one year to the next or improved (and I think 2016 will be no different). Jones is not Zook.

Now it's your logic that's flawed...let's stay on point with the statement you made.

Your last statement was as follows:
He's a better coach than Holtz or Kelly, I'm banking...he just hasn't gotten to the point where he proves it yet.

I'm asking you to defend your opinion that Butch Jones is a better coach than Lou Holtz or Chip Kelly.

Why are you guys even giving this discussion? LW doesn't even believe that Butch is our Zook. As has been pointed out there is no comparison. JP's post is 'nuff said.

Edit: not referring to the Kelly Holtz debate.

Oh, so you've given up on the whole Zook thing, then? That's wise, good move.

Of course the Butch > Kelly/Holtz thing is me being a Vols fan. Just like you trying to equate Butch to Zook was you being a Gator fan :)

Oh I agree he has the program headed in the right direction, but like Zook he has question marks and doubters.

Had UT beaten Oklahoma or us, I'd give Jones all the credit he deserves. And you guys would be more than justified in starting thread about whether or not Jones is NFL-bound after a successful 2016 season.

And least you're honest. :eek:lol:

Zook did less with more than Jones had.

Jones will have about as much as Zook did his final season at UF.

Time will tell.

I can still troll with the best of 'em. :)

D4H is in a league all by himself though.

Actually, the OP is just one guy, not "you guys"...and he didn't start a thread about Butch going to the NFL.

He was pretty clearly asking about whether Butch might leave for another college job. He said, in part, "I think some schools would be willing to throw a large sum of money at him...."

"Schools" being the operative word, of course.

There is a different thread about attrition of players that turned into a discussion of Butch and the NFL...and this thread mentioned it in places, too. But no group of "you guys" started any thread about it :)

Thank you for confirming there's multiple threads with multiple discussions about Butch Jones leaving UT for the NFL.
