NFL Draft expert has Dobbs rated only behind Watson and Rosen

Georgia 2015 (430 total yards and 5 TDs) and South Carolina 2014 (467 total yards and 5 TDs).

For the record, Watson had 478 total yards and 4 TDs against Bama. With about 80 of those yards coming in garbage time after Alabama started playing prevent defense.

All of Dobbs yardage came with the opponent not playing prevent defense.

Plus he won both games. Something Watson can't say in the matchup versus Alabama.

To be fair Watson has had 1 shot at Bama. Dobbs has had 3 so far. Between the 2 qbs 0-4. Im pretty sure Watsons team woyld have beaten Georgia maybe not South Carolina as in thosedays Spurrier beat Clemson no matter who suited up.

Dobbs may make a CFL roster B4 he becomes a rocket scientist. To intimate a 1st round NFL pick is certainly wearing orange tinted glasses. This makes reading off season posts fun.

Charles Davis (NFL Network Draft analyst and VFL) says otherwise. This is what he said about Josh Dobbs as a NFL prospect just last week:

"I think he [Dobbs] is a tremendous prospect. If he has a big last year, he'll be one of those guys we ask how high will someone go to take him."

Here's the full interview he gave on Knoxville radio about Josh Dobbs as a NFL prospect: https://m.soundcloud.com/knoxnews/charles-davis-050516#c=648&t=10:08

Listen from the 15:40-17:50 for what he says about Josh Dobbs NFL potential.

Here is the cliffnotes for those that don't want to listen:

- Charles Davis says that NFL teams are "very intrigued" by Dobbs because of his "body type and skillset".

- He says that NFL teams are looking for "CONSISTENCY" from Dobbs in 2016.

- That if you "had access to their reports", they would be looking for "consistent play and consistent skillset" from Dobbs in 2016.

- He says Dobbs has all the potential but it's come in flashes.

- A big senior season could have him going very high in the draft.

I thought the poster meant let him know when Dobbs has a game like that VS Bama. Not vs SC or UGA. Dobbs had 190 total yards vs Bama. Watson 478 as you said.

They also had two other common opponents. VS Oklahoma Watson had 332 total yards and Dobbs had 137.

VS SC Dobbs had 290 total yards and Watson had 393.

Watson was 2-1 in those games while Dobbs was 1-2.

This is the part where you talk about Watson having the better team though. Where in other threads you would say nobody from Clemson could start for UT.

FYI the argument was not about whether Dobbs is better than or as good as Watson.

The poster just challenged me on whether Dobbs ever had a game as good as Watson did versus Alabama.

I provided 2 such games.

That is all.

I love Dobbs game on the college level but i don't think it translates to the next level. Reminds me of Colin Kaepernick. Great first couple of years with his legs but defenses quickly caught on. I'm rooting for the guy to have an awesome senior season and make teams fall in love with the potential he could bring.

at least we all know he's got an awesome career for himself once his football days are done. very special guy

Barnett, Sutton, Martin and JRM all have 1st round potential next year.

Maybin's physical skillset is very high. He could have played SS or RB at UT. He runs as fast laterally as does straight forward. Very good hips and feet. His use of hands is superb. And he has very good natural strength which can be trained for the combine.

Intangibles: Off the charts imo.
Great leader. Great instincts. Very intelligent. And has a sense to alter the momentum of the game.

He is the best linebacker we have had in a long long time.

He can easily add 10 pounds training for the combine. Most of that will be used to up his bench and 40.

6'0" 235 lbs
4.55 40
36 inch vertical
3.9 cone drill

He can play linbacker for any scheme in the league.

DFH, Maybin isnt just some kid out there playing with a bunch of heart and determination. Hes physically whipping the opponent most of the time. You need to look at him a lot closer. Hes a very special talent. could be another
Luke Kuechly...

He's watched countless games of Maybin...he didn't watch any of Kuechly at Boston College, so his scouting report on him simply says "who?" :)

Actual NFL people disagree with you. Listen to the wonderful interview with VFL and current NFL Network Draft analyst Charles Davis on Josh Dobbs NFL potential.

He pretty much says what I've been saying. Dobbs has tremendous potential that he's shown in flashes. If he can become more consistent and with a big senior season, he'll be one of the top players in the draft.

Charles went so far as to say he might be a guy people will trade up to get like Goff and Wentz this year.

it's still if's and but's.....potential. just as likely he "could be a 1st round pick" it's equally as likely he'd be an UFA.

it all depends on the season he has and if he shows the improvement we all hope he has achieved.

You could say that about everyone. If Watson stinks up the joint next season he could fall like Matt Barkley a few years ago.

The reason what Charles Davis says is interesting is that it backs up my main argument about Josh. That he has the SKILLSET to be a high draft pick and really good NFL QB.

He's got the size (6'3" 215 lbs), he's got the arm (check out the Kentucky game), he's got great athleticism, and tremendous intagibles.

That's why he's got NFL teams "very intrigued".

and? i didn't say you couldn't. i'll just wait to see what kind of season he has before i start thinking about his NFL career.

this is far from a "sure thing".

Nobody is a "sure thing". Even the most hyped #1 picks can be busts.

The issue here is whether a prospect checks all the boxes in terms of prerequisites that NFL teams look for.

For example, at QB NFL team want size (6'2" or above and 220+ pounds). They also want arm strength. Can you throw that out route on a rope from the opposite hash?

You basically need to check those boxes before anyone even thinks to spend a first round pick on you.

All I've ever said is Josh checks those boxes.

For him to be a first rounder, he needs to put consistent high level play on film. He's had spurts and flashes of that the last 2 years. This season it's about consistently playing he did against South Carolina in 2014 and Georgia in 2015.

FYI I'm pretty sure the post you responded to was saying to get back with him when Dobbs had as good a game as Watson specifically VS Bama.As in when UT plays Bama not UGA or SC. I think you keep refusing to believe that's what he meant.

For the record, Watson had 478 yards in the title game vs Bama, the #3 defense in the country, with his 2 leading WRs being a 7th rd draft pick and a white, undersized freshman walkon.

As far as getting 80 yards in "garbage time"...lol. Stop it. It was a 5 point win by Bama. Watson was 9-12 with 2 tds on the last 2 drives in an effort to win a championship vs the #3 defense in the country....and the second TD answered a Bama TD as The Tide was still trying to score so they could win a national title that was still very much in doubt.......you make it sound like it was a 3-4 td lead by Bama and they were just letting Clemson go so the clock would run out. Anybody watching that game knows better.

For the record, Dobbs great performance in 2014 came against a SCar team who's defense was ranked #94 in the country....which is ever so slightly worse than being ranked the #3 defense in the country, which is what Watson faced in January.

For the record, Josh was very good in the second half vs Georgia last year, the #7 defense in the country. But I think I'll pull a D4H and frame it so it fits my "agenda" the way you do.......Georgia gave up 38 points in two separate games last year (Bama and UT, haha) and gave up 27 points to a post-Wil Grier Florida team late last year that was just horrible offensively at that point in the season. There....did I do that right?

I love Dobbs. But if we had Watson last year we go undefeated and beat Bama twice and play Ohio State for the National Title.

Dobbs' mechanics are not ideal for a top QB. Hes savvy, athletic and has good acumne but, he is not even the...

you know what, I don't really know for sure how good he can be. So im just gonna shut up.

His struggle is his check downs. If he can learn to check down then he will be exceptional. He is like cordarelle Patterson... Has all the potential but can't run routes, if he could learn he would be a great. Fortunately I believe Dobbs with a lot of work in the film room will do better checking down. He leaves a lot of guys wide open. If you watch tapes, there are a lot of streaking recievers but he either throws to the first target or runs. He doesn't check down like he should.

It's almost like he over thinks things because he is so genius. So he over thinks... In football you can't think you got to play.

I was watching tapes and he has terrific footwork and form, but due to him not checking down he hesitates and when you hesitate your throws can come out flat or high. If you watch when he hits a reciever streaking on a route designed for that specific wreciever he puts it in the numbers.
