Worst Neyland experience?

1980 UGA game..Herschel Walker's debut and we lost the game by fumbling in the redzone with time running out...The following week we lost to Southern Cal on a last second field goal...Damn that was a tough season.

In sticking with the OP's request to not include the game results (which is hard to do because the result of the game has a ton to do with the experience) here are my 3:

1) 1991 UCLA. It was miserably hot that day. I think Smokey had a stroke and eventually died.

2) 2006 Bama. It was just a boring game. Neither team could get anything going.

...but we won. If a win over Bama is one of your worst experiences in Neyland, you have lived a charmed life buddy.

2003 Fresno State. Right in the middle of my time at UT.

First game of the year, pretty sure the temp was up in the 90s and kickoff was at 2 or 3. It was MISERABLE.

People falling out all over the place, student section was no different. Hydration was not something we were good at. Everyone was struggling.

About 6 minutes into the first quarter, one of the sorostitutes in the row behind us yaks up her vodka/cranberries and passes out. Not wanting to get removed, her "friends" decide to hide her and the puke for a while.

Once they realized she was seriously sick and in danger because of the heat (and constantly flashing her business while laying on the bleachers), they cleared out, exposing the fetid barf puddle to the full August sun.

UT was being stingy with water so we couldn't get a few cups to wash it away....so we spent the majority of the game smelling that mess roasting in the August sun.

Plus the game was a dud.

Go Vols.

Had a first date for a home game and walked from Lambda Chi Alpha house at end of Fraternity Row to Neyland. Didn't know poor gal had a slight disability so the walk took twice as long and by the time we were in the stadium, her poor feet were all bloody and stockings were ripped. Waited for stadium to empty before we made long journey back. We won the game though thank goodness!

Um........ what disability causes your stocking to rip and feet to bleed?

You aren't supposed to let your date carry you to the stadium.

I agree that any win over Bama is good. It was just a boring game.

I wasn't at the 08 Bama game but that was brutal as well...but for much different reasons.

The win over Florida in 1998. That was the most intense swing in attitude I've ever seen. In seconds, everything went from total elation to fear.

I was sitting on the outside row of sousaphones next to the stairs. Within seconds of Collins Cooper's kick failing, people started running down the stairs and grabbing at uniform parts trying to rip them off our bodies to keep as souvenirs. Those of us on the edge were having to fight from being pushed off our feet and into the rows in front of us.

At the bottom of the bleachers, the band directors' kids were huddled against the concrete wall as people vaulted over them to get to field level. Security tried to get to them to get them out but the crowd kept pushing and pushing and pushing.

After everything had died down and the Pride was released to head back, I ran into a group of Florida band members huddled together trying to find their way to their buses. Obscenities and spit were flying at them. I lowered my sousaphone bell between them and the most unruly group of heathens and escorted them out of Neyland. I was called a traitor more than once for helping.

That day made ashamed to be a Vol fan.

The Dooley Missouri debacle when he played for OT and loss. I knew that was it. I was done and yelled at that whus and telling the entire world to fire him now. I would've yanked him off that field before the OT even started and coached them myself.

I was at that game, too. Horrible experience. I remember getting the ball at midfield with somewhere around a minute to go before half, having Tyler Bray and that offense, and Dooley run the time out.

I'm so glad that joke is gone.

I've heard we misbehaved that day, I'm told that Fl made up for it in 99. I was there and it was the most hostile I've ever witnessed.

All gator fans should be warned, that it's gonna get wild and don't expect any help from this year.

Although at Arkanasas somebody threw a shoe at the car, it took us way too long to figure out what was thrown, who knew they had shoes?

Seriously? An aneurysm over Vandy in a 5-7 season?

I've been to 80% or more of these games and that one doesn't even rank for me.

The humiliation of losing to Vanderbilt.....EVER....ought to stick in any true Vols gut. It ought to rank.

Sullivan to Beasley. I was in shock after the game and have still not recovered.

That was the day I learned you can not win a game kicking field goals. (Replay FL in 2014:disappointed:)

I still hate Auburn, but for more reasons than that game.

96 Florida game. It was so much hype and excitement and in a blink of and eye it was 35-0. We fought hard and came back but there was never any doubt Florida was going to win.

A couple of years ago, the ice machine in my suite was broken. Had to get ice brought up to us. There was a short period of time that we almost ran out. Don't fret for me too much thugh. That was the first and last time something that traumatizing has happened to me at a game.

2014 Florida Game - literally threw up afterward, and had not been drinking.

Mine also... My 5 yr. old son said he would never watch a UT game again as we where walking out. And a lady told him she'd been saying that for years and it would be OK. It was a sad but priceless moment... Never give up..GBO

Awww. Poor little fella. Sounds like you are raising him right.

My worst didn't have anything to do with a defeat. In the 70's we hammered Vandy one year and one of my running buddies was a big Vandy fan. He heaved a liquor bottle out of the upper deck at the end of the game. I never went to another game with him.

Back when there were ties, to me it seemed worse than a loss. For the record it's not as bad, but for the experience, seemed worse. That 26-26 tie to Auburn (maybe '90), wrecked me the most, I'm still not the same.

Any unpleasantness I've ever experience at Neyland has only been score related.

Going down memory lane, I can dig it.

2016 will be a year to remember. The year that started the Back to Back NC run.

PS. The bathrooms around NN don't have a baby changing table.

Me either. If I think about for another 10 seconds, I'll start throwing things all over the place...........again.

I was at the 06 Bama game. I did my best Johnny Manziel impression the night before that game, and basically sat with my head in my hands the entire game because that was the only thing keeping me from puking. That, and the piece of a** I had sitting next to me. Despite all that I remember Foster had a good day and Ainge ran what seemed to be about 200 yards to save a pick six that was eventually the difference in the game. Was also the last time we beat the gumps.....so, there's that sad fact as well.

This past season at the South Carolina game there was a man and his little boy sitting behind me. The little boy sat directly behind me and kicked me the entire game. Needless to say, it was very annoying so I finally turned around and gave them a dirty look. The dad started yelling at me saying "He is just a kid!" So he was aware his little rugrat was kicking me and never once told him to stop. :banghead2:

Rediculous call that stole our TD and kept us from blowing the game open. We were good enough that season to win the natty, except for that and Ainge getting injured later. I'm still pi$$ed about that call.

I believe you are thinking about 04 Notre Dame or 05 LSU with the Ainge injury. But that 06 team was ridiculous. I was at the SEC Champ game against LSU that year. (and 2001) ugh!

First time I ever walked into Neyland Stadium I was arrested by Knoxville's finest for being drunk. It was a 1:00 game and I hadn't drank a drop of alcohol (was planning on doing that at the post game tailgate)
