Neyland re-sodding underway

Photosynthesis has nothing to do with the root system except that the grass can not convert carbon dixiode in to oxygen and water unless the root system is working. Different grasses have different roots systems and will withstand drier climaxes than others and will require more cutting and other aspects of maintenance.

Man I hate dry climaxes.

It's the 1st part of May, so you can still use something like Scott's Weed & Feed. Don't buy the cheap crap! It will kill the weeds. You can aereate in the fall and re-seed/sod with fescue.

There isn't a weed and feed available that will eradicate Bermuda. The spray to kill it takes months of continual usage. Roundup does not eradicate it, it only knocks it back for a season. I sprayed my yard 4 weeks in a row one August with triple strength Roundup. 2 years later it returned. I tried controlling it with the freaking spray, finally gave up and just let it take over.

ButchPlz, dude, I really appreciate you. But here's what you said:

...and here's what I heard:

And I guess that explains why my lawn is half clover, half Bermuda, and half weeds. I'm just too dang lazy. :)

Now if you were my next-door-neighbor, and I could get at it one step at a time, with constant advice, reassurance and encouragement, I might give it a go. Especially if I could get you to help, heh. :hi:

You need a sense of humor. That isn't close to what he said.

He was talking about weeds that popped up instead of Bermuda. I agree though, that stuff is hard to get rid of once it creeps in.

Maybe they should plant clover and weeds in Neyland to support the bermuda...it couldn't be worse than last year's field.

Respectfully I request the grounds crew at Neyland NOT take "it couldn't be worse than last year's field" as a personal challenge or goal. I somehow think if they really put in the effort they could. Maybe if we could get these guys out of town for a few years the field would return to what it once was.

Hate to be overly critical and overly dramatic at the same time. But why in the hell are the same people in charge of the field again this year after being responsible for the utterly horrific field conditions from last year. What the hey? Is this for real? More sand is the answer?

That is a very good and very valid question!

I can only speculate that this is likely his last chance.

Ornamec will kill it. Sounds like you have embraced it though. Can make a beautiful lawn.

No, it won't. I tried it. It will eventually control it, but kill it, no. The only way to kill it is to spray with Roundup year over year and hope your neighbors don't have it and let it go to seed.

I wish some of you guys were my next-door neighbor. My lawn would charitably be described as bermuda-and-clover supported by weeds. Less charitably, weeds supported by bermuda-and-clover.

And now there's some weird blue-green stuff popping up in the more clay-ish parts of the lawn. No idea what that is.

Would love to have the grass-growing genius of this thread at my weekly disposal. :)

Call a lawn chemical service, for about $30 bucks a month they can have that mess into a lawn in about 4 months. Of course they will want you to keep getting treatment and such but that's your call. And like the dealership will tell you "It's just one Coke a day." They will come out and either spray or spread leave a note on when to mow. They check the weather so what they are applying doesn't get washed away by a rain.

Disclaimer on the price, it's been a while since I went that route, but it was money well spent.

Thanks, man, that's a great idea. Never thought of calling in the professionals, but you're right. It beats the heck out of me amateuring my way through it with no guarantee of success. :)

Then again, the manly he-man outdoor grilling, lawn-maintainin' we-don't-ask-for-directions tough guy part of me might not be able to get past the stigma of asking someone else to do it for me...hmm, gonna have to think through this one. Heh.

Fusilade II and MSMA will all control Bermuda in the right dosage unfortunately if not in the right dosage it will kill everything haha

I was able to redirect that lawn care time towards more important endeavors like golfing, fishing, and pitching washers.

Now don't get me wrong there is true value in having a nice lawn, for me it was about $30 a month.

I did get 3rd place at the International Washer Pitching contest that year(I say, but it was mostly due to my brother throwing cup after cup).

I had success with it. I didn't have a large section though (maybe 2-3x3 sections).
