I think there was a miscalculation somewhere between underestimating the (lack of) intelligence of the American voter and just how bad the GOP field was.

I wouldn't support Gary Johnson, and anyone who can't see issues with both of the parties is an idiot. And yes, the libertarians not having a chance is someone else's fault. They aren't allowed on the ballots in many states, and haven't been allowed to participate in the debates.

Also sad but true is that by now, people are jaded and tired of hearing about her email server and Benghazi while the Trump University trial will get underway the same day as the GOP convention. How's that for timing?

This is basically what I was referring to with my America/Middle East comparison. Everyone has been bashing on and asking what's wrong with the establishment this cycle, yet, as it turns out, when you give the people more democracy (or at least the sense among them that they should have more democratic powers), all the people do is just make incredibly bad decisions.

It's a paradox: the more direct the people's voice the less likely we are to come out with something actually resembling a liberal democracy. They'll either vote for the entertaining authoritarian, or they'll vote for the comfortable (but same). Either way, they're not going to vote for any change that actually enhances their freedoms or American democracy. They're just the inverse of the establishment, but dumber.

I will offer the counter on the idea that people are getting tired of hearing about it by saying "how many times does crap like this come up before people actually start to notice she's the most corrupt politician that's run for President since Nixon?"

You and I both know the sheer amount of scandals she's been associated with is mind boggling. Especially since she still is the front runner for the DNC. And the more people see what they are getting with her, the better.
