Game Thread Lady Vols Softball Team week 12

Yall gotta start believing in this team and coaching staff more man haha....I've said this team reminds me of the 2010 team that finished 3rd at the WCWS but this team is better than that one

Auburn did not play their best today but we know they're a good team....just like we did not play our best when we played Oklahoma

I really thought that the two teams had traded uniforms and I was watching the Lady Vols make all those errors and walks .....like they have in most of the losses this year.Auburn beat themselves in both games .....errors and walks will get you most every time.

Congrats Lady Vols .......get out the Broom for tomorrow.

After what Auburn did to us last year, it was so sweet to pay them back for their transgression with back-to-back run-rule games. Hee haw! I got into it a little bit with one Auburn fan before the 1st game, and to catch a subdued look upon his face during the 45-minute rain delay -- priceless. :)

(What exactly is a sell-out game supposed to be at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium? I still can't figure it out. For both games today which were officially sold out since Tuesday, there were still plenty of seats available -- a sizable number of people didn't show up for game #1 from last night, but I saw people being turned away at the gates b/c they couldn't buy a ticket to get in. Director of Operations need to do a better job IMO)

Even though we won both games huge, defense still worries me. First game was relatively clean fielding-wise, but in the second game our players lost their focus. Lexi and Gretchen not communicating on a foul ball which should been caught for an easy out by either one of them, Shaliyah and Brooke bobbling the ball in the outfield and Megan Geer dropping another easy foul ball -- those mistakes could've been costly if Auburn capitalized on our mistakes in a close game. You cannot give an extra out/swings to your opponent and hope to win on a consistent basis. Period. Without a doubt, it's something which still needs to be addressed/improved/fixed as we head to the last week of regular season play, and I'm sure the coaches will continue to work on that aspect of the game.

When Moss pitched that one solid inning last night, I had a good feeling she was gonna bring it today; and I thought if TN managed to win the first game, then we'd have a great shot at sweeping the doubleheader. But never in my wildest dream did I think Tennessee would do it the way it happened. SMH.

Can't wait to see where TN's RPI would be sitting come tomorrow afternoon. Quite possibly inside the top 10. My fingers crossed. #GoVols #SweepAuburn #TigersPlyaingVeryNervous

It was great to see the families of our seniors in the stands -- dancing, cheering, shouting/chanting, just enjoying and savoring every moment as their well-accomplished daughters finish out their proud collegiate careers. (Lexi Overstreet is the spitting image of her mom. :))

Tickets were sold for all of the available 1,600 seats, making it a sellout.

This season, UT convinced the fire marshall to allow the sale of an additional 160 "standing room" seats that allow people to enter the stadium and to fill any empty seats. This allows the stadium seats to be full, even when season ticket holders don't show up.

UT cannot sell more than the capacity, plus standing room tickets, per the fire marshall regulations, no matter how many no-shows there are.

I'd love to see the Lady Vols sweep the Barners. It will be tough to get them the third game.

Who pitches tonight? Do they go with Rainey? Moss again? Start Rainey and ride her as far as you can then bring in Moss?

Totally amazed that we have run ruled the number three team in the nation twice. If we win tonight we are tied for second in the SEC. Regardless of what happens tonight we have done a job on Auburn that they haven't experienced all season.

Auburn has suffered from a lot of self-inflicted wounds in the series. They've had a high number of walks and a lot of errors. That's very uncharacteristic for them. They're the number 3 team in the nation for a reason. I would like to see the sweep completed tonight, but Auburn may bust out.

Thanks DeerPark, that pretty much explains it except that I was in the stands for one sellout game this year when the PA announcer said, "Give yourselves a big round of applause; tonight's attendance is 1,845?!" exceeding the allotted capacity of 1,760 by 80 or so. I think it was one of the weekend games against MS St. The stadium looked NEARLY full. Since then, all the other so-called "sellout" games haven't even come close to filling up the stadium as much as that game. IMO, SPL stadium can easily have 2,000+ fans in it with standing rooms seats. Maybe we'll approach that figure in the postseason?

I'm no pitching coach, but I'd have to go with Moss as a starter and bring in Rainey or Erin as a reliever when we need to. Obviously, all three pitchers will be ready to go tonight.

Jeff, our hitters looked as if they had no problem hitting Auburn pitchers. I'm very impressed by their pitch selection, patience and also aggressiveness at the plate. After watching two dominating performances by Tennessee in person, I don't think the odds are very likely that Auburn will come out and manhandle TN tonight. Auburn will make an adjustment I'm sure. If anything, I think tonight's matchup will be a closely contested neck-and-neck game, more like 5-4, 6-5, or 4-3, 3-2 kind of game, which I expected before TN put an *** whopping yesterday.

we need to win tonight to continue our momentum. I was disappointed we got wacked by georgia in the last game of that series after winning the first two, though of course it happens. If we can get an early lead tonight, we might demoralize them--which would be sweet. What worries me is that all three of our pitchers have been hit pretty hard in a number of their second starts in a series. I hope whoever it is will do better tonight. It's a good opportunity for us.

There are only 1,600 actual seats, so that is the true capacity. But if there are 200 no-shows, then you can sell 1,800 tickets and have a person in every seat.

The number reported is tickets sold, not people physically in the venue.

The 1,800 crowd was an experiment of sorts with the approval of the first marshall. After that game, they established the maximum number of standing room tickets at 160. UT would like to be able to sell more, based on how the crowd looks, but was not given approval to do so.

They are looking at adding outfield seating for next year.

I think a no-show ticket holder's seat should be resold and then if they actually show up after the game starts then the two of them can fight it out for the seat. :) That'll give the crowd something to watch between innings.

The reason I mentioned starting Gaffin is because Karen said they needed to get her more innings plus Gaffin only pitched two innings in the series thus far and Auburn hasn't seen her as much as they have Moss or Gabriel. Start her and hope for a bunch of ground balls the first time through the lineup and then bring in Moss for a different look. They could easily reverse this, however.

Of course if I'm the season ticket holder and I show up late and some good looking female is in my seat - no problem I'll say, you can sit on my lap dear! :)

I'm very accommodating that way. :dance2:

Yeah, there is a 90% chance of rain starting at 6 PM. I hope the game isn't cancelled.

Why didn't they move the game up to a 4:00 p.m. or 5:00 start or somesuch? I don't understand this.

The AD surely should have seen the weather reports and moved up the starting time. Dumb.

They have done it for some non-televised midweek games in the past. But this is a nationally televised prime time game on the SEC network. I'm pretty sure that the SEC network has a lot of say on this matter, and fortunately or unfortunately the school administration likewise would rather have its game being broadcast live in front of national audience at the risk of having the game delayed/cancelled.
