2016 Election Thread Part Deux

The GOP has the majority in the House the problem is they don't have a majority within their own majority. This problem has been discussed on C-Span's "Washington Journal "by dem and repub reps alike. There is a core of forty gop reps unwilling to compromise and for that reason the reasonable reps work with the dems to get bills passed. Typically most reps will vote for a bill if it contains half of what they want, but not that bunch. A small majority is driving the gop over the cliff.

So...in order to get up to the sky high democrat approval area they just need to go along with the Democrats.

Voters have spoken pretty clearly over the last six years. Let's not count the multitude of offices Ds have lost in that time.

I'll raise you the democrat base. The GOP establishment are clueless, no doubt, but the democrat base is utterly moronic, completely devoid of the ability to think rationally or intelligently.

Here's their platform:
Free stuff
Make the rich pay
get whitey

What more do you need to get them to fall in behind the most corrupt individual ever to run for high office?

Edit: To answer my own question; We will elect the first woman president. She's a strong woman.

The base is signed, sealed and delivered.

Sorry, you still described the majority of the GOP base as well, evidenced by the guy who is the front runner.

The only difference between both bases is, you happen to lean towards one therefore you judge them less harshly.

I understand where you're coming from, but imo what you are describing is also a big part of what is wrong with government. "The norm" is no longer to vote for something because you believe it is a good bill/resolution, but rather to hold out your vote until you are also given some "added benefit" (e.g. amendments included for something you want and/or trading your vote for their vote on another bill/resolution).

This is exactly how crap gets passed that never should, and it is also why some good bills don't get passed because there is other crap thrown in with it. So what we have created is a government that can't seem to get anything done because rather than voting for what you (or your constituents want), instead votes are essentially kidnapped until some type of ransom has paid.

I have to disagree. While I truly detest the Democrats general approach to size of government and personal responsibility, I view much of the GOP the same as I would a traitor.

Most of them campaigned with very specific promises that they abandoned with speed once in office. How many said they would fight to end Obamacare? How many actually did anything of significance? Most even ridicule their voters who still ask about it. They are worse in my eyes.

And John Boehner is the worst of the worst. We couldn't have done much worse electing a Democrat into that position. What a loser. Always crying on TV. No killer instinct. No desire to win. Constantly making excuses for why he can't. Just wants to be accepted inside the beltway and ensure he'll be making bank after his days in office. These people disgust me.
All good points. They are about to select Hilliary Rodhog Clintin as their nominee, and they will ALL fall in line and vote for her.
All. of. them.

Wrong! They need the approval of the people that elected them and dis approval is growing by the day. The south will remain gop , hopefully the rest of the country will wise up.

Like it or not that's how it works on The Hill. Quid Pro Quo.

Opponents of a new piece of legislation use the age old tactic of inserting the" poison pill" to aid in killing it.

They elected the first black and then doubled down on their stupidity. This time it really could be a woman for president. Who knows, their next fad just might be an illegal alien. One thing for sure is that in a few years no one will have to be embarrassed by even the thought of American exceptionalism or leadership.

So they should vote for a bill containing what their particular political base doesn't want to get some of what they do want? Compromise doesn't mean buying everything two sides want; it means agreeing to necessary issues when the budget allows; and in neither case should one side agree to what is abjectly rejected by their constituents. If you don't stand for something and will agree to anything, then you are nothing. This is why legislation should be stripped of any riders, amendments, attachments, or whatever you might call them; one bill - one topic in clear, concise, English signed by the originator and voted up or down on it's own merit.

His point is solid. For what reason does one come to the U.S. to tear down its ideals while openly advocating for their home country that they left?

You're assuming all those protesters came to the US. Just because they have brown skin doesn't mean they came to the US.

It's my assumption that those waving Mexican flags are either from Mexico or have some allegiance to Mexico. Those people should pack up and move back to/to Mexico.

I see tons of people waving Ireland's flag during St Patrick's day festivities. No one says they should move to Ireland though...well maybe you do, I dunno.

Celebrating Irish culture on SPD = celebrating Mexican culture on Cinco de Mayo. Nobody makes much of a fuss of Mexican flags everywhere on the 5th of May.

I don't know if people would start having a huge problem if a large amount of Irish Americans started waving the Irish flag all year and put it above the American flag and started demanding the national foods be changed to potatoes and Guinness, but my guess eventually the non-Irish would start getting at least annoyed.
