Lady Vols Recruiting Info

I'm sure that Dangerfield is well aware that the lady Vols have Cooper as the PG for the future

That's probably true but she could have come in here & probably even beat Cooper out for that starting position. They both could have even been in the starting lineup at some point because Cooper or Dangerfield could also play SG.

UT was on Crystal Dangerfield's radar. She likes and considered UT, her mother wanted her to go to UT and thought that's where she would go. But CD said in an interview that she hates to lose and UConn knows how to win, so she did what was best for herself and her future and chose UConn. I'm sure Cooper factored into it, but the LVs recent struggles are not going unnoticed by in-state recruits.

Based on this year, she didn't have much to worry about.

In any event, they could have co-existed on the same team. I have a feeling that Crystal will have an excellent freshman year.

Holly can't win for losing. She had a very poor strategy during the Syracuse game. First of all she starts off with a one, two, two full court trap which was perfect, we got out to a lead, and then she stops. If we had stayed in that it would have rendered Syracuse's collapsing zone less effective. We couldn't feed the ball into the paint because they had three to four players in the paint at all times. We didn't move to the mid range jumper or the three because we've been crappy at those all year. We need to develop a mid range jumper game and a three point game or teams will just zone and collapse on Russell all next year. We need to emphasize catch and shoot at the three point line in practice. And, we need to emphasize less dribbling and more passing and shooting.

How long have we not said and seen the samething for the last 4 years, however, Holly is so head strong with an antiquated offense. She just does not get it. The Pat Summitt exclusive through it inside offense simply does not work without an outside or mid range game. I think we have the personnel, but my question is do we practice that type of offense? I would say not. I just think it is a situation where we have a coach who has difficulty moving on from what she was taught. That is always a problem when you stay inhouse and do not consider outside possibilities. A coach, to be successful, must change with the times or things become stale, outdated and very predictable. I believe that we are at that point.

I don't think it has anything to do with that. If Pat was still in her prime and coaching we'd be competing for championships and going to final fours with the same offense we've always ran. Holly isn't a leader. Don't think she's very smart either.

Holly is going to have trouble getting the kind of player needed because she isn't that kind of coach. We have to get a coach in that demands all out effort and will not tolerate anything less than 100% effort.

I heard the tail end of this interview with Dean Lockwood earlier today and I thought I'd go back and check out the whole thing.

There's a bit of discussion related to recruiting so I figured maybe this is the best place to post it. Mostly general discussion on the season.

I agree somewhat, but as I understand it, Pat, prior to her health issues was considering a new offense. I do know that Stanford made changes to their offense which was similar to Pat's offense. I believe they switched to a version of the Princeston Offense. With better defenses in the women's game it is difficult to be one dementional on offense or defense. Now days for your inside game to be good you need an outside and mid range game that is consistent. I believe that Pat would have found a way to change her offense to meet the demands of today's game. I do agree that Pat's leadership was far superior than what Holly seems to possess. She may be smart in in someways, however, her intelligence does not seem to translate into the role of head coach.

Dean interviews well and actually says things that need to happen for Tennessee to get better. He said Russell needed to get stronger, more aggressive and consistent. He talked about the need for leadership. On recruiting, it appears that Holly is looking for at least two to three players that can help the Lady Vols for 2016-2017. He did not name the ones they were looking at because of NCAA prohibitions against such announcements. He said that the players they sign might not come in as instant home run hitters but will be able to contribute. Like, Holly, he said the Lady Vols were not just going to sign anybody. He did say that the coaches have identified some super 2017 players.

I give it to Dean, he is much better at interviews than Holly. My biggest question is have the coaches analysised the reason for the 2016 recruitment disappointment and made changes to their recruitment.

In the end, it appears that we are stuck with the present coaching staff. All we can hope for is that they have learned something about coaching, which at this point is questionable.

,

He also, addressed the lack of recruits for 2016! I swear some people hear what they want! He said, we do not recruit players just to fill spots, we need to see a place for them, they are High School players, we need to have an idea how they will fit in over the next four years. We went after many top recruits, were very close to 3 or 4, but (in my opinion you negative Nancy's here, like Jasmines Mom has said) we didn't close the deal, close to home is still better, the WNBA really doesn't pay more than a degree, and these ladies want to be close to home. I honestly have no idea, what some of you hear, when some one says 2 plus 2 is 4, and then start acting like math is fuzzy! We lost 3 WNBA leaders to the draft, one of the other starters, soon to be leaders, was lost to concussion Jones. We had talent, but it was raw, not seasoned and lacked leadership, as Dean said, no swipe at Graves, or Nia, but there was a bunch of new forces. Well, 4 starters, hello! Get over yourselfs, quit beating this team that, that in the end, lost, not because of effort, but because of health. Stop beating on Holly as a recruiter, she brought in ALL these AA

In case you don't know, Jasmines Mom, and Andrea Carter (basically, but clear out on Jasmines Mom) read you negative people out for filth! Carter stated, thanks for the negative post, media blogs, and comments and doubts, it only made the team stronger and let them know who the true fans are. MRS. Jones, was much more up front, saying she let her daughter make her decision to come her, as she was an adult, but the negative, and unfair banter from fans, is noticed, and talked about by parents of recruits. I think that basically calls many of you selfish, wanta bee's, know little, front runners, and not needed, and begs you stop chasing off future recruits

Okay, sorry but I think you are just ignorant! We played Syracuse with 1 guard, on the national level, a freshman, Cooper! Carter had a broken finger, hello, make her use it! Our starting point guard was out. Graves had a broken finger and worse, so, that nifty drive from top of the key...gone! Syracuse shot the lights out from 3 points, and that wasn't all defense, that was just their time! 14 three's, and some where just ridiculous. We couldn't press, due to injuries, we couldn't handle the press, due to injuries. I am not sure what game plan you wanted Holly to play, but seriously there was little that our players could do! I will agree, we need to never, ever, recruit a defensive guard, unless they can shoot. Our shooting is awful, but that is just as much on the players. Dunbar, despite what you all keep complaining about is still hobbled by her ankle, I hope she is health next year, because she can be an inside out offensive force, and defense is mostly effort

Chitown, are you using this excuse for recent play or the whole year? As I remember, we were not very good when everyone was healthy.

Some people just don't get it our current coaching staff is less than average, at best. However we will be blessed with them for the near future. We will see how it plays out. Let's hope all the holly lovers are right and the rest of us are wrong.

I know some former Lady Vol players and I know that Holly regularly brought them into scrimmage against them and to teach them what it takes to be a champion... The former Lady Vols were very disappointed with the attitudes some on our team had and that they didn't want to listen to them. It still falls back on the coach but she has not done as bad a job as most on this site suggest. She is winning at a .761 winning % and has made 3 elite eights. She should continue to grow as a coach as this becomes more and more her program and away from Pat. I am worried about her recruiting and if she doesn't bring in a stellar '17 class then it might be time to look for a new coach.

Everyone mentions all these other coaches that we would rather have but the majority of them finished below us. Jeff Walz got beat by freaking DePaul and We spanked Ohio State all over the court. Not a great season and I have my doubts about Holly but sometimes the grass isn't greener on the other side of the fence.

You need to read better! I believe that next season is the 2016-2017 school year and Dean said they were planning on picking up 2 or 3 players. For the 2017 recruiting year they might pick up 4,5, maybe six players. The 2017 recruits would play as Freshmen during the 2017-2018 school year.

I know you love Holly and things as is, but this coaching staff needs a lot of work if the Lady Vols ever plan to reach the bar that UCONN has set. We can call posters names and criticize their remarks all we want, but the LV program needs a lot of work. Dean alluded to the fact that UCONN has raised the bar and the Lady Vols needed to get better. The problem is no matter what posters or coaches say the proof is the climate of your program. Are we satisfied to say we are number 32 or should we achieve to be number 1? Not only say it but do it.

But we did press. What are you saving it for? All teams are banged up. Enough with the Holly apologists.
