About this. Is this true? That the records can't be released while an audit is being conducted?

No, it's not true see below:

"Realistically, Romney is right. Trump could absolutely release those returns now – even in the middle of an audit. While an audit could result in a change (or two) to his returns, it does not change what Trump filed, signing “Under penalties of perjury, I declare that I have examined this return and accompanying schedules and statements, and to the best of my knowledge and belief, they are true, correct, and complete.” In other words, no matter how what happens as a result of the audit, what Trump submitted, he did so claiming that it was true at the time. If the IRS makes an adjustment (which happens, even with the best prepared returns), it shouldn’t substantially change the nature of the returns. And if the IRS makes no adjustment, then there was no harm, no foul, in releasing those returns. Trump could release those returns at any time.

That said, as a tax attorney, I don’t know that I’d be so quick to advise that he should release the returns to the public. Once the returns are made public, they’ll be picked apart – by Cruz, by Rubio, by the media, by Clinton, by Sanders, by the very public he’s currently wooing. And even though there might not be anything remarkable on those returns, having any potential flaws highlighted during an audit makes the returns a little more difficult to defend. While the audit – which Trump calls “routine” – might be focused on, say, dividends or related entities, it can’t help to have the public asking questions about foreign accounts or charitable contributions (which I fully expect to happen). In that regard, while Trump could release those returns, if I were his tax advisor, I wouldn’t want him to."

Romney fires at Trump for not releasing his tax returns and in typical Trump fashion "prompting Trump to call Romney “one of the dumbest and worst candidates in the history of Republican politics.

Trump says he can’t release tax returns because he’s being audited - MarketWatch

Romney was trying to scare GOP guys from supporting trump A few Reps came out for Donald and Romney wanted to squash that. He probably knew Christie was about to pull the trigger and wanted to scare others from doing so.

I wouldn't be surprised if Trumps tax returns show he donated money to Planned Parenthood

Now Trump is saying he'll "open up" the libel laws so people can sue the New York Times for saying nasty things.

Sue them for lots and lots of money.
I can't even read the business section of that rag it has such a liberal slant. I didn't think that possible, but there it is.
