Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXV

Jamie Naughright wanted to overhaul disciplinary procedures for athletes at Tennessee, and she also approached administrators and coaches with plans for improving football players’ GPAs. Her approaches were met with scorn and mockery. Head coach Philip Fulmer even gave back Naughright one of her proposals with “11-1, that’s all anybody cares about,” written on it.

Fulmer..... Legendary

So what kind of combine numbers do you guys think we see from North and Maggit this weekend?

North 4.6 range, will do well in bench for his position and catch it well in drills.

Maggitt will struggle to run less than 5.0, will do well in agility drills and strength numbers will be above average.

LV's are a dumpster fire. The program will not recover anytime soon. Oh well. I agree, the Title IX lawsuit stink probably kills the opportunity to hire a competent coach. The funny thing is many of the supporters will be chiming in to give her another shot. Probably an equal number are saying fire her today. So Hart is going to get trashed no matter what they do.

Great witness, nick. Thanks for sharing.

SP is finally getting close. I am so ready.

Personal story, relating a bit to the Drae situation.

There was a season in ministry, for 6 1/2 years, when I was under a man who crushed my spirit. At the end of this season, I was mentally and emotionally shot. I had no faith left in myself to do anything, having been crushed under an incredible workload, jobs I couldn't excel at, and verbal abuse. It got so bad, I had to pick up my family and leave the country. A team of psychologists told me "the house is on fire, and you've got to get out." As a man, I felt I had completely failed in life.

It took two years of recovering in the US before we could get back to what we do. In that time, I received a phone call from a supporting organization of this ministry. Allegations of abuse from another foreigner (after my time) and he had taken it all the way to the international office level. I was questioned about my time there, and whether I had seen any of these incidents take place.

I had one week before the questions would come, and I sat there, like David holding Saul's robe, knife in hand, knowing that the lifelong work of this man I despised was literally in my hands. I could crush him... but at the same time, end a lot of good things that were happening there for children, in spite of the work environment. My integrity was on the line, battling against virtual hatred that I was battling to let go of.

The call came, and the questions came. When I could have thrown this man under the bus, I took the high road, because of MY integrity, not him. I truthfully answered that I had not seen any of the behavior described by this other guy, and it did sound far fetched, based on the fact I had spent 12 hours a day with this guy for 6 1/2 years. They asked me whether they should continue to fund the work, IMO. I answered, "Let it be clear, I have no love for this man. The staff are overworked to the point of exhaustion, and he is mean spirited. However, the WORK itself that they do is good, and hundreds of poor children are receiving a quality education. I have not seen the acts which you have described to me."

David refused to lay his hand on the Lord's anointed king, and I told God, "If you are going to deal with this man's character, it's not coming by my bitter hand."

Drae has an incredible amount of power here... in the truth and the lie. I have no idea which one is the truth, but I hope that he does not let the temptation of that power lead him to take vengeance on a situation where he has harbored bitterness.

I wish there were more people like you in this world

Elite 8 last year. I don't see a change happening.

Given what's going on in the periphery, I doubt he does anything. Problem is it's inevitable it's going to happen eventually. How much do you let it burn before you put the fire out? If he let's it go another year it makes the climb out that much harder. How many leave after this year? The players have given up, the fans have given up. Her recruiting is atrocious. It's over.

I mean...the LV diehards want to see a winning team as well, right? I don't think they would necessarily flip out if Hart fired Holly. He will probably have to hire another woman, though, so that kinda rules out the Louisville coach who was rumored to be the top candidate.

He's probably going hire another female coach so what's the difference?

Edit: What Aesius said

Yeah, it's a no-win. Fire her, and here come the pink sign picketers and more media grenades. Keep her, and the AAs transfer, ticket sales go down and next year will be worse. Program's going over the cliff.

Ten more days till spring FB! I'm sick of basketball.

Maybe that's his stratergy, let it get so bad that the die hard LV fans would accept any coach that was a proven winner. "We don't care! Just get us a winner!"

North measured in at 6'2 223lbs, long arms( 33 3/8) and big hands (10 1/4). Nice size although I think he is 2 inches shorter than what he was listed as. 4.6 would be good for him.

Maggitt hasn't weighted in, but I think he will be faster than 5.0.

Maggitt is held together by bailing wire and pop rivets, I hope he doesn't disintegrate at the combine. He was a fun Vol to watch.

We should hire the best coach we can get - male or female - without putting any restrictions on the search. This isn't a Title IX matter, but UT will tread lightly in the current climate, IMO.

We all knew whether we admitted or not that Dooley was finished after losing to KY. These last couple of games are Holly's KY IMO. She's a dead man, ah hem, women walking.

Love when you get all pastoral on us Nick. Great story. Thanks for sharing it.

There is never a good time for something like this to go down. But in reality we could not be farther away from 2017 signing day than we are currently. This bad press may keep kids from jumping on board temporarily. But the coaches have almost a full year to prove to the next class that the culture is good at Tennessee. That will reveal itself over time, and luckily we have lots of that.

The coaches will be pushing harder than ever to sell what's great about this place. Lots of playing time to sell in this next class too.

Winning helps too and we're about to do lots of that.

Looking for silver linings here.
