CBJ allegedly tells Drae Bowles he 'betrayed the team'

For those thinking UT Football and CBJ are finished, just look at FSU. Their starting QB was accused of heinous crimes. He went unpunished and they continue to thrive. Different I know but as long as UT can keep the NCAA out of this then this will eventually pass...as hard as it is to believe at the present.

Anyone else noticed where he said " judicial process"?? Sounds like this is going to court.

Just saw the CBJ quote on the ESPN crawl. They didn't include the judicial process part of the quote, essentially they just picked pieces of it. They suck..

What do you mean? He (and the accuser) were granted a waiver to take their exams...after which Pearson was suspended from school. Had he needed summer school to be eligible in the fall his career at UT would have been over.

I'm sure if you look back that you can find statements from his attorney asking why Williams was allowed to remain in school and his client was not.

I'm watching the basketball game, I'll see if I can find it later.

All three were allowed to finish the academic year. If they would have immediately kicked any of them out and they were later acquitted of the charges they would have been able to sue the university just like what happened to Montana. What they don't have to do is honor the scholarship at the end of an academic year which is what happened to Williams. The university never said they kicked him out they said they have moved on, meaning he lost his scholarship.

Your post is confusing.... You said that this will not end well for Drae and said his stat sheet coming out of hs was bad. He is saying that Drae is basically lying to protect girl, but yet you say you do not want to argue... with what, sounds like he agrees with you and does not believe Drae?

I jumped too quick on his reponse. My fault.

Stat sheet comment was simply stating that Drae was never a D1 talent, and I think everyone finally saw that.

A lot of effort here locally in the past 8 years or so to make Drae the greatest thing since sliced bread. Initially, this played right in to it. "Local hero threatened for doing great deed". I've just never bought it and don't now.

Butch must have the same lawyer as Peyton

Whoever writes their stuff really does a bad job of denying the specific thing they are being accused of.

It should have directly quoted the statement in the refile and then state he never said that or anything like that.

As a lawyer, i would say you are dead wrong. You always want to leave a way out in case your client isn't telling the truth.

My opinion of this matter is that UT has really elected to fight this until the end. The plaintiffs are quickly punching themselves out. I guarantee that UT was shown this new evidence before it was filled and was given an opportunity to settle. UT elected to go the distance. Plaintiffs are going to run out of dirt and this case will settle in to a normal routine. UT will look to destroy the credibility of the plaintiffs during the discovery process and the plaintiffs will look to find more women. Hold on on because it's gonna be a ride.

Not a law expert by any means, but couldn't Butch/UT file a lawsuit for defamation of character? Or does this whole thing have to play out before that can happen? Also, why are they slowly releasing different tidbits about the lawsuit? Wouldn't you just file a lawsuit and then release all information to the judge?

It's going to court for sure. UT has "all" the facts on their side. The lawyers on the other side are going to be shocked when they announce because they are banking 100% that this was going to be settled out of court. Thats why they have got the media so involved. They are totally unprepared to go to court. Expect them to go "scorched earth" in the coming days. It's all they have. In the end they will lose badly.

He is legally limited in what he can say.

Commercial...

For example, Pearson, who has not been charged, is on “interim suspension’’ yet former football player Michael Williams, who was indicted in February on two counts of aggravated rape, is enrolled in summer school.

I know without a doubt that butch jones would never say something like that with this alleged incident at hand. He would do anything in his power to help the victim. This is beyond wrong and shameful what these people are doing to this university. This is about money, and runs deeper into the power hungry "heads" in the administration that aren't big on our athletics. This is out of control and the media is doing a piss poor job at telling everything in the wrong wording and not telling both sides to every story. Drae isn't what you think. That particular allegation isn't what it is. That's why it angers me. I know first hand.

Half the people in Jackson think Drae was a fraud to start with, created by the local media who had close ties to his father and the private school he attended. If I sent you his stat sheet pushing him as a D1 athlete you would have laughed me in to hiding.

Chatter around town now seems to lead to to the thought that this is all blowing up in the face of the Drae Bowles PR machine. Don't think they expected the Twitter backlash and fully expected to ride the hero train all the way.

The last thing this camp wanted was for people to dig further in to the story so not sure how today's news came about. Don't think they were on board but now it's gonna get bad.

If UT takes a stand and fights this, Jones will be fine and this could be the thing that makes the whole suit go away.

I stand by what I said on another thread way back when. "When all this plays out, It's not gonna end well for Drae"

If he didnt get beat down before......

The problem is how long will this take to go to court and get verdict? AJ still has not gone to court for crying out loud. I agree must be fought, just adding years to the torture though I guess.

you busted me on my thinly veiled attempt at showing that his statement was in no way a denial

The real question that needs to be asked is if Jones ordered the Code Red or not.

Seriously, this isn't going away any time soon and these stories will keep trickling out and get rehashed. May as well get used to it or go into bunker mode,

Going to be interesting to see how much longer they stick with Hart. This type of controversy has followed him to three stops now. No way he keeps his job long term.

If they cut ties before the suit gets resolved, it seems like that will undermine the defense against it.

Cut ties after the fact and he can be held up as a sacrificial lamb.

If Jones can't disprove the statement from Bowles, I don't see him making it through this mess. And if it's true, he shouldn't.

What nobody has mentioned is that this is not an institutional issue across the country, it's a national cultural issue. This crap is going on everywhere. People abusing women, animals, killing each other. A little parenting would probably help. In my time as a youth, in the 60's and 70's, this crap didn't happen because I was more afraid of my parents than the law. Nobody is afraid of the law anymore and the respect is nonexistent.

Who would CBJ sue? College girls without any money? He wants nothing more than to come out the other side exonerated.

Sexual assault, assault, harassment, it all happened in the 60s and 70s too.

And I never reported that what he told me was what he told the grand jury. I don't know what he told the grand jury.

Bowles told me a very different story than the one in the lawsuit, however, he was not under oath when he was talking to me.

Got a question tonight about the story I did last year after talking to Bowles, so want to make sure I clarify something here.

So you are assuming that this is all true? If so, based on what?
