It's not just TN media. I guess Butch just hasn't accomplished enough yet to earn his media impunity.

If the accusations had been leveled at Harbaugh, they'd have called him colorful.
If it were Meyer, they'd speculate on how it will affect 2-deep.
If it were Saban, they'd know not to report it.

It's gonna suck but I think UT is willing to take the hit "short term" over knuckling under to some blackmailing "pay us off and we'll go away" group.

The shameful thing is some of the local media saying "pay 'em off" is the way to go.......

If UT is in the right...... Take 'em to court and make 'em prove their point. Then sue them for defamation.

If UT is in the wrong...... Pay 'em off and make it go away.

It's not all about butch. The biggest reason it's a huge story is because there's accusations dating almost 2 decades now

Bowles was NOT physically assaulted in front of a member of the coaching staff, it was broken up before it began and further this was only stated in the lawsuit. Bowles testified he was not assaulted to a grand jury in February 2015.

It wouldn't be hard to understand why he might have an ax to grind. The affidavit needs more context. We need to know what Jones had been told before his first phone conversation with Bowles and we need to know specifically what was said during that first phone call... and we need to know if Butch did indeed call him back to apologize and why. I understand our rivals rushing to judgement but it looks like a Vol fan would want more information before assuming the worst of Jones and calling for his head.

Bowles reportedly had an earlier affidavit in the criminal case where these juicy details were interestingly omitted . The Tennesseean is acting like a press agent for the plaintiffs lawyers who have well orchestrated this. Playing trump cards first makes me suspect case may be weaker than it looks on the surface and they are fishing for a settlement. There will be lots of depositions and discovery with lots of focus on the criminal trial for AJJ. What Butch allegedly said and later apologized for sounds bad on its face but without context and corroboration it does not prove long term lack of institutional control or hostile environment particularly for 20 year timeframe. This is going to be a long drawn out soap opera with leaks timed to embarrass and aided by a salacious media who will have this as a back story for every game this fall.

Will someone please bring up the fact that alleged "victim" was Bowles GIRLFRIEND!!!! He was just mad that she wanted AJ. That's why he got punched in the mouth. Made up some BS about AJ to help his thirsty girlfriend. He is a traitor from where I'm sitting.

AJ WAS suspended from the team, NOT from school, and he graduated.

Michael Williams, involved in the same case was KICKED OFF OF THE football team, allowed to remain in school.

Both were charged with a crime and are awaiting trial.

Von Pearson was suspended just like AJ from the football team but ALSO SUSPENDED from school, even though no charges were ever filed in the case.

Why was Pearson treated so harshly by the school compared to the others?

I believe if this crap is ever going to go away, we (Tennessee) need to address this and all the other issues that are troubling. It has gone way past just the Football program, this crap is effecting the entire school, and the State of Tennessee.

Mr. Bowles has repeatedly been quoted to law enforcement as having said he was not assaulted. By anyone.

Now he says he was.......

Context aside.... Which are we supposed to believe?

I think Drae will make the case he was threatened to fabricate the statement under law. The whole lawsuit and the way things are handled/reported are so murky.
