CBJ allegedly tells Drae Bowles he 'betrayed the team'

What are your thoughts on the following?

Lawsuit Claims Tennessee Football Players Assaulted Drae Bowles For Helping Rape Victim | The Big Lead

Bowles was called to testify to the grand jury that eventually indicted Johnson and Williams. In an interview from February 13, 2015, he claimed he had given the alleged victim a ride home from the party where the rape occurred, but she did not tell him she was sexually assaulted. He also denied that he had been assaulted himself.

Are there not consequences for lying to a grand jury?

More than likely he would have been called for the trial. He has now put himself and the state in a very bad place. He is no longer a credible witness to anything.

This is correct. Should they all have been handled the same way and if the answer is yes...that they handled Pearson's case differently because they were under investigation, what is wrong with the way they handled the others?

As a fan, shouldn't I ask that question?

The way they handled Pearson's case was a complete load of s***. Read up on UT-Chattanooga getting sued for something similar. People shouldn't be presumed guilty. And in the case of Pearson and UTC - it didn't work out well.

And Pearson was just added to the lawsuit anyway. The school did absolutely everything that could have been asked. The police were more than thorough before concluding that there was nothing there for charging him. Just another plaintiff wanting a payday. Really shows their true agenda.

IF this is true, Butch Jones should lose his job along with several others. However, it is simply an allegation at this point (although many media members are treating it as fact). What is a fact is that Drae Bowles has signed two separate affidavits telling two completely different stories. This could be due to peer pressure or he could be trying to recant his original story to somehow gain financial benefits out of this lawsuit, we just don't know. Regardless, there are currently no facts backing up his claim, so while this isn't a good look for Butch, the university, or the football program, we should not start panicking unless facts surface backing up this claim because right now this is just a "he said-he said" ordeal.

I bet the % of coverage on this topic during the game will be more than our field goal percentage tonight vs SCjr. Hope I'm wrong

The only way I can answer that is Maybe.

Perjury - FindLaw

State and federal penalties for perjury include fines and/or prison terms upon conviction. Federal law (18 USC § 1621), for example, states that anyone found guilty of the crime will be fined or imprisoned for up to five years. Most*state laws*have similar provisions, but judges typically have discretion to use leniency (including probation in lieu of a prison sentence) where appropriate.

And if you are convicted, you may even lose your livelihood. If you work in a profession where truthfulness is valued, such as the legal profession, law enforcement, and some public service jobs, you could lose your professional license.

Perjury is considered a very serious crime against the integrity of the justice system. If you have been charged with the crime or have additional questions, consider speaking with a*criminal defense attorney.

The problem with reading every document and noting things happening over and over is that the same person constructed those documents, so of course he/she is going to write it in such a way to be anti-UT.

That might be correct about this particular lawsuit, but I'm talking about documents related to all the different cases going back 20 years and they are all written by a host of people.

Interesting.

All these young women, unhappy with the way their cases were handled, scared to go forward with their education at UT, scared of the backlash they might get because heck if they will ALLEGEDLY do this to Bowles and get away with it, what will they do to me?

That doesn't have your attention?

Wow they need you as their lawyer

Yeah this was the chick that left the bar at 3am with 3 football players, went back to their apt and had consensual sex with one guy and then started fondling Pearson. Something went wrong and VP said "she's got to go". She deserves money alright. $200

The only way I would approve of the Butch Jones fire is if we rehire Derek Dooley to take his place. That is about the only way to make sense out of the sh!t storm that is Tennessee Athletics.

It's really sad that I understand that.

Well, Drae Bowles is no longer getting any money and will be going to go to jail now for perjury.

It would depend on what he has to say about why he told a different story at the time...Bowles is not a party to this suit, just a witness.

Right but he has now contradicted himself on the same alleged incident in 2 different courts. I think his testimony should be removed from both courts and he should be charged. If AJ and Williams are guilty that could have been important information for the DAs case, don't you agree?

Here's something. Do you think Sutton, Kamara, and JRM would have come back had they know this could blow up? I'm thinking not. They would have known if there really was a beatdown of Bowles or any of the other allegations could have been remotely true. I'm calling this an extremely successful smear campaign and nothing more. If UT had no wrong doing I hope they don't settle then counter.

Yep, that'd be the one. And Alexis's accuser. She has an on-off relationship with him. Is at his house at 3 am. Playfights. Then calls the cops. Doesn't want to press charges but adds her name to a potential payday. If that doesn't scream set-up, I don't know what does!

Why strip a young man of his education before you have actual proof of his guilt? IF UT suspended Pearson from school over fear, then his case was the one mishandled, imo. Why is their this assumption that these young men's lives should be put on hold because of an allegation? How is that fair? You're giving young women the power to ruin a young man's life by simply saying he did something. That's ridiculous. Would the same thing happen if it was a young man accusing a young woman? Of course not. When guilt is proven, fine, take action and kick the guilty out of school. As it is, it should be enough that an accusation alone can derail a young man's sports career. Don't take his education as well.

What absolutely has to happen if UT wants to walk away unscathed from this......

TN HAS to wait for the AJ Johnson-Michael Williams trial to take place and those to be found not guilty. And that sucks because the plaintiffs are going to release anything they can to make TN look bad to force a settlement. Including unprovable "he said-she said" statements through the media.

Unfortunately, this is going to mean a LOT of bad press in the short term, again, trying to force a settlement.

Once an an acquittal comes down from the trial the plaintiffs are DONE. Then TN MUST file defamation charges against whoever they can (within reason) to restore their status and to demonstrate that you cannot simply make allegations and "get paid". You better have something to stand on before making those allegations.

I think TN knows that the Johnson & Williams trials will come down in their favor and are willing to take the hit "short term".

All of this is simply the plaintiffs trying to force TN into settling so it will all "go away". One thing that I have seen is local media saying that paying the plaintiffs off is the way to go just to make this go away. I've now reached the point that if this stuff isn't true then TN MUST fight back.

Enough is enough......

Unfortunately, if TN settles it's tantamount to an admission of guilt and will encourage others to simply allege "something" happened to get paid.

All of the above being said, TN had BETTER be in the right......
