The Runner's thread

On longer runs, blood doesn't flow as well to the outer extremities so it isn't rare for nails to turn black/blue and fall off as they become oxygen deficient. I haven't lost any nails on my longer runs (Half marathon/training and Bourbon Chase/training) despite--or maybe due to-- the fact that I have pretty bad circulation to my outer extremities anyways.

It's completely normal and nothing to worry about.

I wasn't really worried about because I had read and talked to other people who have had it happen to them. It just hadn't happened to me yet. I was more curious to see if any of us in this thread had it happen.

Thanks for the info though about the oxygen. That's good to know. :hi:

I've never had the black toe.

But, my right leg continues to tighten and seize up every time I try to run. Taking a little time off. this sucks.

Get better quickly bill. Always sucks when you have to take time off due to an injury. Lets hope its just a minor set back.

Dayum. Right achilles gave out just casually walking up stairs last night. No visible sign of tear or trauma and doesn't really hurt at rest. But can't push off. Walking like a peg leg right now. Guess I am out for a while. Hope to back here in a reasonable time. Trust me - aging is a beetch.

Tore my calf last April. It blows. Heal up and don't over do it. How your physical therapist is hot. One of my four was!

Six miles in the teens today. Brrrrrr. But no pain!

Didn't run this weekend. I simply just didn't make the time. Hoping the rain is gone by this evening when I get off work so I can get a run in.

you guys have any advice for elevation acclimation. I'm running the Capitol Reef 50 in July and 20 of the miles are right at 11,000 ft. I've read some of the best things you can do if you don't have access to training at race elevation is 1.) show up in the best shape possible and 2.) pace off of effort, not time. The effort it takes to run an 8 minute mile at sea level might be the same effort to run a 9:15 mile at 10,000 ft.

Any thoughts? I'm going to go out about 5 days early and spend some time up high, but I can't afford to get out 2 weeks before to get fully acclimated.

Wish I could. I live on the sea and the highest elevation I get is Buffalo Mountain when I go home haha

Have you looked into those elevation masks? I don't know if they work but I have seen people use them before. That might help. Good luck.

fwiw, I've read literally dozens of articles saying the elevation masks are bunk. They simply make it difficult to breathe, nothing more.
