Alexis Johnson arrested (merged/updated 4/21)

Again, compare to Paulk. If CBJ thinks the player did something wrong, charges or no, he will be punished accordingly. He always seems to be fair.

Agreed

Also very key is the mention of prior arrest.

I have read conflicting reports on that. If they are true the kid must go regardless

His attorney is Greg Isaacs... the most well known defense attorney in the area.

Earlier today
Isaacs released the following statement:

"Alexis Johnson has cooperated with every aspect of the investigation. Alexis adamantly denies the allegations and intends to plead not guilty. Our firm is conducting its own independent and more expansive investigation. Alexis looks forward to having the matter resolved as expeditiously as possible."

Alleged victim didn't want to prosecute. Stay tuned.

Sometimes I wonder if other teams boosters or something pay people to set our players up (not serious btw). I am not saying Johnson is innocent, because none of us know yet, just seems like odd amount in short time just as team is a contender now.

Well, only if there is some kind of pattern of behavior. If the priors were underage drinking related, or something along those lines, then it wouldn't matter. Also, now is the time Jones really needs to be a character judge. If Johnson is given a pass, so to speak, Jones needs to be fairly confident another similar incident isn't likely to happen with him again, or it would come back to bite him.

DUI and drug possession was what was posted

It's a strike thing for me.

This incident is strike 3 if those did happen even if this gets dropped

He has 2 priors? I thought it was all one arrest. . . I trust coach Jones to make the right decision here.

just suspend the dude for the early game against a creampuff---the vols need his game big this fall to win the SEC east!!

Well, I am ASSUMING you are arguing the Tennessee statute on what constitutes aggravated assault. I will provide that for you. A simple google search will verify what I am posting here: (and no offense taken)

Aggravated assault is defined by Tennessee Code Annotated § 39-13-102(a) as follows:

(a) A person commits aggravated assault who:

(1) Intentionally or knowingly commits an assault as defined in § 39-13-101 and:

(A) Causes serious bodily injury to another;  or

(B) Uses or displays a deadly weapon;

What does -101 define assault as?

Hubbs indicated tonight that there's word from "pertinent sources" that there are holes in the accuser's story and that charges against Johnson could be dropped as early as tomorrow.

If that happens, he's reinstated.

Now where are all the clowns who wanted the kid dismissed yesterday?

We have due process for a reason folks. Sometimes the accused is actually innocent.

Now you're going to change your tune? Yesterday you didn't care about due process, you only cared that he could be a contributor this year. Your posts were apathetic towards whether or not he was guilty. But now you're a champion of due justice? You're worse then the "clowns" who wanted the young man dismissed on accusations alone. You were willing to overlook the truth in exchange for wins. That's just pathetic.

He's a potentially good player at a position of need. Even if you don't believe in due process, wouldn't you selfishly want to know of he's guilty before kicking him off the team?

That's not how the real world works. More ability always buys you more leeway.

This mentality needs to go. I believe in due process. I've said let's see how things play out before convicting the young man. But backwards thinking like this helps no one. All the talent in the world doesn't make it okay to victimize someone.

Ok the worst case spot PR wise is about to happen it seems.

What should cbj do if this girl says she never intended to press charges and recants her story?

IMO the press is going to eat us alive if that happens and he is allowed back on the team

He should be allowed immediately back on the team if all charges are dropped.

Welcome to the real world. The only reason we are even talking about this kid is cause he might be a good football player. Thousands of young men are arrested everyday. Stop acting like this situation is the same as others.

I'm actually gonna say the truth and admit I want these allegations to not be true cause I think we need him this fall.

You can pretend to be a knight in shining armor looking for cheap likes on a website.

I never said it was okay for him to not face punishment if the allegations turn out to be true. You're misinterpreting my quotes. I only care for his innocence because he's a potentially good player for us.

If you noticed I haven't posted a thing about Mack Crowder cause his guilt or innocence doesn't affect this football team next fall. Alexis Johnson does.

Because I want Tennessee football to be good this fall, I'm willing to give Johnson the benefit of the doubt that he could potentially be innocent. That is why I engaged in arguments with those that wanted the kid dismissed based on mere allegations.

So if what is being said is true (basically the chick is full of it), then at what point do these people that cry wolf get charged with filing a false police report? Sounds like this girl is looking for a pay day too.

Never. Doing so would discourage actual victims from calling the police....at least that is what they say. If I am an actual victim I am going to file a report. Look at the young lady at FSU....she was persistent and did not change her story. I do believe she was raped by Winston. With AJ, I believe he had consensual sex with the young lady but Michael Williams did not. I think somehow AJ encouraged MW to have sex with her and that is when things went sideways.
