Supreme Court Justice Scalia has passed away

Marco Rubio saying seat should remain vacant until the November election is one of the hypocritical things I've heard said by a presidential candidate this cycle. I'm sure he'd be advocating the same if a Republican were in office. The position of Trump is even worse, "delay, delay, delay." It's a shameful way to operate.

You seem real concerned that feeble minded President might not get to seat another Kagan or Sotomayor.

That's why it matters who wins Senate elections too.

Apparently Rubio isn't smart enough to realize that if it remains vacant until November, Obama will still be in office.

Did you miss the rest of the candidates pretty much agreeing with that sentiment?

And FTR, he didn't say November.

Everyone here gets pissed at the President because "he hates the Constitution and never follows it," and now that he is following the Constitution, everyone here is pissed about it lol

Obstruction by Senate Republicans will lose them their seats.

Unless you think President Clinton or President Sanders will make better nominations, I'd let President Obama have it.

You've not even seen the candidate yet. And how many different candidates would they go through in a year?

Do I really need to wait to see who Obama puts up?

C'mon, don't be a dunce. You know full well he already has someone in mind and they probably are not going to be a Scalia replacement.

Shameful all around. Then they started yammering about taking away religious freedoms. They just can't help themselves. What religious freedoms are being taken or is that just a transparent ploy to fire up the religious right over a noon existent bogeyman?

Sure. Wait and see. Do some research and then bring intelligent well reasoned objections. It doesn't seem too much to ask.

Do you believe that he should seek out a Scalia clone?

Do I need to wait and see for the candidate that's likely going to follow the same pattern he's done before?

Maybe you're right and Obama shocks the world by nominating Andrew Napolitano.

Do you believe that he should seek out a Scalia clone?

As a Constitutional scholar? Absolutely. Even his opponents say the same thing that the man was incredible in his knowledge of the word of law as well as his application of strict adherence to it.

There are constitutional scholars that disagree with his interpretations.

Code:
Scalia argued that the Free Press clause was originally intended to protect the distribution of written materials and did not only apply to the media specifically. This understanding supported the majority's contention that the Constitution does not allow the Court to separate corporations into media and non-media categories.

Whether people like it or not, Scalia did this country, all of us, a huge disservice with being the deciding factor in Citizens United. Good riddance.

Is that really necessary?

Justice Scalia, though i didn't always agree with him, was a dedicated and smart jurist. Though i disagreed with some of his views and decisions, to spit on the man's grave is unnecessary and classless.

The man clearly loved his country and the law. We lost a great jurist yesterday and the supreme court will be forever changed. Despite the lack title, does anyone doubt that this has been Nino's court for many years?

Didn't mean to come off as crass when I said good riddance. My intent is that the SC, and us as a populace, is better served without him on the supreme court.

It is Constitutionally legal and acceptable to delay a confirmation until after the next election. Will the Senate have the temerity to do that? They should. It would really give this election a lot more meaning. It would be a referendum on many salient issues: healthcare, second amendment, immigration, religious freedoms, presidential powers, etc. etc. The many issues that have come before the court during Scalia's tenure.

Why was it funny? He's donated to her campaign as recently as 2013. They're long time friends.
I guess your sarcasm meter is not working this morning. There would be nothing whatsoever funny about that. Sorry.

It's not any real big revelation that all those clowns from Bernie to whoever you would consider the farthest right are best buddies. They all sit around in their favorite private club and drink expensive single malt and laugh at the idiots that are the American public. You are right when you say there is no difference in any of them. We just have to figure the lesser of the evils. Too bad we don't hold the ones that we can do something about accountable. Congress. Your guys sucks. mine is great. There is the problem.
