Supreme Court Justice Scalia has passed away

Senate judiciary committee should never let an Obama nominee make it to the Senate for a vote.

Which presidential candidate do you believe would pick the best justice?

I do not know the future. But I know the present, and his nominee should never see the light of day. If he does, this is all a sham and the R party should be burned to the ground.

They could make the following deal:

Unseal college transcripts and get to nominate a justice.

I doubt he takes it though.

What if Sandwes wins in Novemeber? Will you then be begging congress to approve whoever Obama appoints?

If a new nominee is held up then the lower court decisions would stand. Gives a lot more power to the appellate courts.

If Sanders wins, this population has become so ignorant and spoon fed that a supreme court nominee is not the worst of our problems.

Bullspit. I really liked Scalia opinions, but no scotus will take away 2nd amendment rights

Appoint another Kagan or Sotomayor and anything is possible. State of California for instance, wants to enact gun restrictions, case goes to the Supreme Court, Kagan, Breyer, Ginsberg, and Sotomayor rubber stamp anything California wants to do. They just need one more vote.

Take away? No. Restrict even further? Very likely.

Imagine the Heller or McDonald decisions with a SCOTUS leaning away from that 5-4 favor. McDonald was a landmark case that applied the 2A to all States equally. And Heller finally gave a clear definition of arms.

Neither of those would have come to pass had the SCOTUS been favored the other way.

This is a rational assessment of the implications of Scalia's demise, as it relates to the Second Amendment.

I get tired, however, of absolutists who claim this or that will inevitably be the end of the 2nd Amendment. What does that even mean? This country will never outright ban all guns. It's asinine to think it ever will, whether ye be conservative, moderate, or liberal.
