Zero accountability for journalists now. Not even their editors care as long as the story drives ads/clicks.

I think editors are more to blame. Headlines get clicks. Many times the headline doesn't match the story at all.

We are talking in here last night about this and I said I thought Peyton and Lil Jon were included so that it could be used by the media to get headlines and clicks.

Guess what?

Every civil suit starts out with the defendant vowing vociferously to fight such scurrilous charges. At some point, it becomes a cost-benefit analysis that leans toward settlement. That said, this suit is highly inflammatory and without merit. I've seen a lot of garbage suits, but this one is garbage rolled up in worse garbage, smeared in excrement and dragged through a toxic dump.

This. The media has so much influence and not an ounce of responsibility.

On a general note: it makes it so difficult to actually follow what's going on in the world because nobody ever gives it to you straight. There's always a slant, and then other people hear things from this station or that website and parrot it as if it's fact. Hard to find the truth. Case in point: I still don't know the ins and outs of the TPP because anybody who talks about it is much more interested in fearmongering sensationalism than actual facts and analysis. So frustrating.

Back to the UT case, I'm not surprised they're fighting this. How do you win a 'rape culture' claim when, AFAIK, nobody has been found guilty? Even if AJ and/or Williams are eventually convicted... Can you really extrapolate one incident to be indicative of an entire university's culture?

Unless they have other cases or new evidence, I don't see how this holds up in court. But that won't get nearly the same coverage, because that headline isn't nearly as juicy.

Welp, this is going to drag out it looks like. :ermm:

I hope the truth fully comes out. If there is guilt on the side of the college then they should be immediately fired and punished to the fullest extent.

If this is a money grab by those suing, then I hope they are labeled as extortionists and are openly exposed to the public, then punished to the fullest extent of the law.

I haven't seen it discussed here, and certainly don't want it to become a "should Christians drink" argument, so please, lets not go there...

Anyways, an UGA guy who serves here in Thailand posted about how Peyton was a negative influence by saying he was going to hit some malted beverages after the game. I'm not into FB debates and all of that nonsense, and certainly don't want to bring that here, but here is an interesting article with quotes from Peyton discussing such things, from his perspective.

Peyton Manning Shares the Shocking Reason Why He Loves Jesus, Drinks Beer, & Won’t Pray to Win

Oh boy ... You've enlightened some on VN that Peyton is a Christian. Some people here feel he is a god. I expect a large group of non believers will be turning their life over to Christ Sunday morning. Good job!

Very serious deal, but this is good IMO, especially if ut feel's they can win. Something has got to happen to stop these types of deals and if ut wins, knowing that they did everything right to prevent future occurrences, then this is a big deal

Dude, you capitalize IMO, but you don't capitalize UT? Twice? You have lost all credibility here and should be ashamed

Unless of course you dictated in your post without editing as we all have. :)

Settling to make a nuisance suit go away is actually the worst thing you can do… Especially if you feel that you did nothing wrong and have grounds to prove it.

What is going on with Vol Network voice Randy Smith. He has just convicted the entire university in an article on the Chattanoogan: Randy Smith: Culture Among U.T. Athletes As Ugly As It Gets - Chattanoogan.com

One item in the article mentions Drae Bowles, "allegedly helped a woman who was raped by two players." Note he alleges that Drae helped, but definitively states "raped by two players."

Lol. I love all the holier-than-thou types who use this lawsuit as a pulpit to stand on and shame the University of Tennessee for its "failings."

Gotta earn those social justice warrior points somehow, I guess.

The Randy Smith who wrote back in 2012 that Dooley "deserves a fourth year no matter what?" The Randy Smith who wrote a week ago that UT fans should "leave Holly alone" and let her lose in peace? He's no journalist; he's a hack with a keyboard.

John Brice on 104.5 just now

"Looks like NO settlement and UT wants to fight this"

"Drae Bowles testified under oath he wasn't assaulted and this is being used for shock value"

"No player has been convicted and the university feels they have taken great efforts to prevent these type of issues"

This is exactly how it should be handled IMO as I stated yesterday. Don't roll on stuff that is fabricated that you have a strong legal basis to counter. If they want to play shock and awe - it works both ways. Some of the complaint is downright silly. Bust their chops. They took action and suspended the player each time.
