Name 5 players we will miss most from last year, ok 5 we miss at all, ok 3. I'm at pretty much zilch. From a production standpoint not VFL heartstrings doing the talking. Maybe Kerby? Jury out at LT I guess. Has this ever happened before? No loss at any position on the team that is atleast downgraded a little the next year. Equal or upgrades across the board. Whew now I feel better after all the press drama dark cloud stuff. Atleast we are gona be good and kick ass for a while. All that matters to me.

Randolph will be missed to some degree. Although switching to Shoop's defense may lessen the impact of not having him back there.

Owen Williams will also be missed.

SIAP... Former Vol assistant....per Bruce Feldman...

#Alabama hires #Kentucky's Derrick Ansley as Tide's new DB coach.

Not sure how many care here but I thought it was worth sharing.

When comparing the different sports in recruiting it's amazing the difference and wow what a very very steep mountain our vols have to climb with this in their back yard

Vandy got 3 top 40 players in the country commitments in 1 day yesterday in Baseball. That's amazing it itself but probably not surprising until you learn the class of those kids.

2019.

Hard to believe for me.

As a former D-1 baseball player back in the day and lifelong MLB fan - coaching/development, academic standing, and commitment by the university.

MLB has their own farm system. Many, many more guys get a chance to keep playing somewhere after school. Vandy in particular has an elite HC/staff to develop guys with sufficient academic standing to be accepted. They have proven this ability over time. They simply prepare their players better to step into pro ball. MLB scouts know this as well. The Vandy degree, or attendance if they leave early, means more after they are through playing the game. May not like it as Vol fans, but it is true.

Serrano is a proven top HC. However, he came back to the SEC with a left coast formula that does not work in the SEC. Hopefully, that has now been addressed and Hart stays with him if he takes a step forward this season. It took Corbin and Tanner awhile to gain traction as elite coaches. Tanner had to leave NC State for USC.

Good post and I agree with the bolded. I don't think we can make a better hire than Serrano. As Bruin state, he had a mountain to climb when he got here and was using a formula that doesn't work in the south. I'm hoping he can take a step forward this season and kinda rethink his overall approach for the future.

Can someone explain, in short, why Serrano's baseball formula can't and won't work in the SEC? TIA.

Vol4us

As a former D1 baseball player I am Certain you didn't make your school of choice as soon as these kids

I think it's completely "wrong" to committ on this timeframe

Do you think it's healthy for the game to have kids commit before that even have played a single game at the hs level?

Someone who follows it more closely can probably expound on this subject much better than I can but my impression is that its difficult to recruit kids to play small ball. The brand of ball Serrano plays may actually work here if we could get enough traction and make it into the tourney. So far, it hasn't allowed him to even get to that point.
