Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXIV

Fort says he only signed FAA. UT can talk/see him as much as he wants and no other school can. NLI will be signed early next week. He said Kongbo still intends to be a Vol. Didn't sound very concerned just now on 104.5

They asked kongbo. Don't have link but it was an interview. He said his dad hasn't signed because he's been away somewhere. And he will sign when he gets back . Also stated that he had no desire to go anywhere else

I don't think there's anything to worry about here. Clearly he wants to be at UT..but to just take his word for it and think nothing can change his mind just because he said he wasn't going anywhere else is a bit naive.

Otha Peters for example.

So VQ guys saying Freeze can't visit with Kongbo but LWS saying other schools can recruit him which is why we need the NLI signed in the first place? Is anyone else exhausted and confused by this? It is clear from Kongbos tweet he is excited to come here and didn't appreciate the sources who put this story out there today. Butch needs to turn in OM if this continues to drag on- adding to OMs long list of recruiting violations and questionable activity. They have a pattern of this.

The skinny: No. 6 overall, No. 3 in California, behind only Josh Rosen and Iman Marshall, and the No. 1 defensive tackle in the Class of 2015, McKenzie always held a special place in his heart for Tennessee, with his dad, Reggie McKenzie, having played for the Vols in the early 1980’s. After picking up offers from many of the top programs from coast to coast, McKenzie committed to the Vols over Arizona during the summer leading up to his senior season. As a true freshman, McKenzie was able to showcase the talents that made him a five-star, finishing with 24 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble while playing in all 13 games.

Farrell’s take: Mckenzie was the biggest recruit I’ve seen who can move the way he does. He’s a zero technique at the NFL level, but he moves well enough to make plays in a 4-3 as a 3-tech as well. He had a lot of bad weight but was still so dominant pushing the pocket and chasing things outside the tackles that we couldn’t hold it against him. He’s off to a good start to his career and if he trims down a bit and gets a bit quicker NFL teams will be drooling over him in a few years.

Nobody is going to stop recruiting a 5* defensive end they think they can still add to their roster. I guarantee you that Freeze is still recruiting this kid and his parents to Ole Miss.

As a Cam Newton supporter I have to say that I was disappointed with the way he acted toward the media and I'm not gonna blame it on the whole he's young and he'll learn from it. This is a 27 year old man that gets paid millions to play football so he should be old enough to know better. Win with grace, lose with grace. I think the whole fumble thing is just his haters trying to pile on, if I'm his coach I'm telling my star qb to stay away from that pile and not get hurt, kind of like when Qbs throw interceptions and they stay away from the play because they know it's open season. But come on, you gotta admit that the quote about "show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser" is classic stuff.

Only the schools in which financial aid papers have been submitted can continue to recruit him.

That is why some players submit up to 4-5 etc.

I don't know if he has papers in with anyone else. That is the question to ask.

I have very little doubt that he will be a Vol.

They can't unless he has financial aid papers in with ole miss. He might.

That is a good question- seems like Ole Miss would have said in their article that he signed FAA papers with them if he indeed did. Did Hubbs or Fort mention that today?

Throwing a pick and then laying low is not even remotely in the same stratosphere as not diving for a ball that was clearly easy for you to dive on whilst down 6 in the SB with minutes to play.

Not. Even. Close.

He should have just quit and not commented, like he did at the press conference. I saw the picture with Manning when he was congratulating him. The press needs to leave him alone.

there is that Bronco idiot who purposefully tried to tear the head off of his opponent and his comments, which are far worse than anything Cam has said. Nobody seems to care...

As for Kongbo, if he ends up signing with Ole Miss won't that really bring all eyes on that program?

That's the part that has me in disbelief. This isn't the third preseason game. It's the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl. If that isn't time to "risk" injury, no such time exists.

The press conference is small potatoes. It's just blown up because it's the biggest sports stage there is. Everything is a story around the Super Bowl. You've got millions of people watching that otherwise wouldn't. Those people comment, and many of those comments are blown out of proportion. It's not hard to understand at all.

Rumor out there that Bowling Green WR Gehrig Dieter is transferring to Bama. Yes, he was the one that showed out against us.

The ten or so dropped balls helped their team lose more than him not going after that fumble.
