How much water do yall usually try to drink in a day? I've seen recommendations all over the place.

I consume my water only after it has been heated and filtered through coffee grounds. Only then is water truly fit for human consumption.

Gah you guys are still talking working out?

i just ate three chocolate chip cookies. And plan on another before bed. The best workout I've ever had has been since I've become a dad. To three. Boys.

I now understand how dad strength > Whatever you guys are doing.

Weightlifting thread has been dead for a week or so, and I wake up to 4 pages of this. :eek:lol:

Not going to add much, but I added a ton to my leg routine yesterday, and loved it. The way I see it, a man's legs doesn't get much appreciation. Covered most of the time. Legs are a measure of desire. The legs are for me... no one else, because they are there, and they deserve to be awesome. Cat's be hammering out sets of crunches and curls for days, and I'm like, "Stack the plates baby!... squat day!!"

Quite possibly the single weirdest post of all time from you, Nick.

I always think about the bro science video on how to avoid leg day when I see a post like this.

French press is a game changer on coffee.

I wanna do a drip too.

French press is the only way to go if you have the time. Also makes a darn good over night iced coffee.

I'm wanting to try the areopress though. Supposed to be the best way to make coffee.

I'm dying at this pic. These dudes going to town on their chocolate cones. This is why we win recruiting battles 😂

I'm not sure I've seen a funnier recruiting picture. It's so flawless.

North Carolina wasn't the only locale along the Atlantic seaboard that had unaccounted for sonic booms yesterday.

Sonic booms mistaken for earthquakes in New Jersey, Long Island | New York Post

U.S. military officials told NBC News that a U.S. military F-35C Joint Strike Fighter jet created a "number of sonic booms" during flight tests off the coast of New Jersey on Thursday. The Joint Strike Fighter was followed by a chase plane as a spotter, officials said.

Straight or ramped sets?

I usually work up to my five rep max. I do squats, bench and rows Monday/Friday and squats, overhead press and deadlifts on Wednesday. I alternate every week and on Fridays I after my normal three 'buildup' sets I go 5 lbs heavier than my five rep max from Monday then go 5lbs lighter for 8 reps. Started about two months ago and have added 30ish lbs to all my lifts.

when i was 30. did a lot of powerlifting/legs. towards the end of all that. i was in great shape but couldnt walk up a flight of stairs without my knee cartilage grinding and back being sore (ive life since i was 16). my pt is with all the new eyeopening 'healthy lifestyle' studies showing men have a baseline weight that nature has provided them, adding bulk muscle is unnatural and as we age all the added stress of that extra weight acts in many same ways as bulk body fat. food for thought. strains on joints, muscles, etc.

i gave all those leg workouts up, heavy weights to concentrate on muscle confusion via low weight high rep, strict form, as well high repetition of using body's own weight as resistance (pushups, pullups, dips) and running. it's much more fun and results are good thus far. plus i saved a **** ton of money on protein and supplements.

Abs are 100% chick bait and nothing more, but I'm ok with that.

I'm super late to the party here, but for people that have lower back problems, having strong abs can really help support the L3-5 vertebrae. I've got a bad lower back myself and a large percentage of all the physical therapy I've ever done is focused on building and maintaining a strong core.

sounds like you have a really good system going. well thought out and implemented. not sayin what i used to do was end all be all, but made some really good strides. two weeks before i knew i wanted to try for a new goal 'max' was cut down to half my old max and rep that to 12-15 4-5 sets...then, during that two weeks move to twoadays' to get out of the rut...really confuse things go in early am, and blast legs, full squats, hacks, front squats, deadlifts, then move to dumbbell stuff.

then later that evening after dinner. come in and work chest. bench press to incline dumbbell, flat dumbbell, incline smith etc. made some really nice gains. anyway. kinda simple, but effective im sure you younger fellas have it down to a science now.

people look at me like im nuts at the gym. implement quite a few Pilates poses (it aint pretty). but i found it to be one of the most effective ways to stretch and gain strength.

anyway back to cruitin'.

20+ years in the Marine Corps. I did all the working out I care to do in my life. Traded in the six pack abs and guns for love handles. 12 oz curls for me from here on out and I'm good with that.

Actually, at 51 I'm still in better shape than most people 30 years younger than me.
