If a site won't recognize all players, they aren't worth my time. JuCos not being considered in rankings makes zero sense. If they are part of a class, they should be considered. If you wanna rate them a %point lower due to not playing all 4 years, so be it. But ignoring them altogether is dumb.

Recruiting is about PERCEPTION. The 2 services with the most eyeballs are rivals and ESPN.

Why do you think everyone says we had back to back top 5 classes in 2014 and 2015?

Because we finished #5 on both espn and rivals. We were #7 in 2014 according to 247 and #4 in 2015. But no one says top 10 in back to back years.

How high we finish in the class rankings in ESPN and rivals matters the most. Which is why they're the only rankings I care about.

I have to strongly disagree. Recruiting is all about finding talent that produces on the field and perception is virtually useless.

I'll take an SECC while being perceived as recruiting outside the Top 10 any day.

I only like ESPN on NSD because its what shows up on TV for everyone to see. But I don't actually like their recruiting section at all. Luginbill is basically the only person who evaluates recruits and they don't have a formula for the rankings.

I think it's silly to try and compare the careers of Newton and Manning currently, seeing as PM has more than 10 years on Cam. That said, I just did some digging for the sake of digging and I find this interesting: Peyton had 147 total touchdowns over his first five years. Cam has had 160 so far. Obviously that's where Cam's legs come into play, but still. That's a lot of points. TD to interceptions are all reasonably close as well. He may not be the field general that Peyton is (I don't think anyone ever has been, he's usually the best coach on the field) but I think as far as pure talent, and physicality go, Cam Newton is the most incredible QB we've seen in the league. It's fine if you don't like him, but don't act like he came out of no where this year.

He is saying that the recruiting sites/ rankings are all about perception. Coaches could care less about how a recruit ranks as long as they like him. The rankings only serve as a selling point based on perception.

ESPN's recruiting rankings get a lot of flak around here, but I do like that they at least have write ups explaining their reasoning for a ranking and what they see on tape and that they seem to be a bit more stingy with handing out elite grades than other services.

Granted, you either have to pay or know someone who's willing to steal their info to see it, but it's nice that they do that rather than give a generic 1-10 rating in a couple areas like 247.

Truth is, it's a crap shoot on who has the best evaluations each year anyway. Services all do it a little differently with some seeing more importance in camps and all star games and some placing more emphasis on game film. They're all pretty hit and miss.

Most people who follow recruiting follow 247. It's the most informative and thorough. They have timelines, better history on recruits, CBs, composite rankings, etc. It's really not even close.

Been following recruiting for 10 years. I still prefer rivals and I don't trust the 247 composite formula. Myself and a couple of posters on the hoops forum found a flaw in the composite formula just this past fall and brought it to their attention.

For me. If I were grade the sites using rivals formula, Scout would be a 5.5 3*, ESPN a 5.8 4*, 247 a 5.9 4* and Rivals the obvious 6.1.

I lost some respect for 247, when they bumped Matt Elam from a 3* to a 5* immediately after Bama offered. Everyone and their momma knew that dude would be a bust.
