The one thing I keep falling back on in my head is they rattled the unflappable Tom Brady tonight. Cam is a stud but if they can shake brady they can shake newton. Plus that was a perfect storm for carolina. Not to take anything away from them but the cardinals were a mess and they couldn't miss. No way they play that game 10 times and it's ever even close to that a 2nd time.

I'd have to say Dobbs. I think Dormady could be great, but we don't really know yet. Lose Hurd and I think Kelly and Kamara could still get it done. An injury to Trevor Daniel could prove to be a killer.

Agreed on Dobbs. That would have the most impact for sure. But I like the pieces behind him. They should be ready to go if called upon this year.

And yeah I didn't think about special teams. I could have added Evan Berry to that as well.

Didn't we sign a highly rated punter in last class? Townsend maybe? You would think he could step in if something happened to Daniel.

TD is the truth tho.

If Dobbs made it through the Bama game healthy and the schedule eased up then we could maybe overcome an injury to him. And time to get back ups more game ready. Dobbs and Hurd absolutely have to stay healthy. Those two are the offense.

I'm not sure about this game. I think Carolina's oline is a lot better than the Patriots. Not sure its going to be as easy to get pressure on Cam.

But if any D can do that, it's Denvers.

My mind will probably change a bunch on this between now and the SB, but I think the Panthers win big. They will take the Broncos run game away and make Peyton beat them through the air. 3 years ago I would say that favors Peyton. But he just doesn't have the same zip on his passes he used to. Those Panthers DB's are hawks and will force him into mistakes. He'll have to play one of the best games of his career in my opinion to win.

Would be epic to see him do it though.

I'll be pulling for him.

I feel like at some point last season DeBord realized he had to stick with Hurd early on in the game, even if it wasn't working. Even if they stopped him for no gain, he was still leaving his mark on the game. The defense had to pay for each tackle. By the time we got to the 4th quarter, defenses were worn down from taking his beatings.

I think he's the best player on our team and we don't have anybody on the roster that could replicate what he brings.

Alvin would be about as solid of a replacement as you could ask for though.

Yea it's Hurd.

Feelings were rather similar when Mannings high powered O faced off against the Seahawks D several years ago.

Thought Seattle was going to get curb stomped but we all know how that turned out...

D tends to trump O.

The most glaring problem with all these "defense is more important than offense" posts:

Panthers defense is at least as good as Denver's. If you think it's high-powered offense winning games for them, you haven't been paying attention. Arizona had the high powered offense (and a good defense) and they looked like a flaming pile of excrement tonight.

I want Peyton to win as much as anybody here, but I'm not optimistic.

Carolina is great but they are not unbeatable. Cards gift wrapped that game for them tonight. Palmer hasn't been the same since he dislocated that index finger which is a big reason they looked like crap. Sure Carolina did some great things but a 100% healthy Palmer and I don't think that game is as lopsided as it was tonight.

All that to say... I don't see Peyton gifting 6 TO to the Panthers.

Panthers defense is almost as good as Denver's. And good in different ways. Kuechly, Davis, and Norman are superstars. That one D lineman is really good too, forgot his name. I think it'll be close but Cam is playing out of his mind.

The biggest concern is going to be Denver's rushing attack... That has me worried.

Second concern is if D. Thomas is going to look like hot garbage. Dude couldn't catch the cold if he drank a bottle of the flu.
