I was thinking about it. Who would be our biggest injury loss going into the season next year? Which player is the most critical to success?
Last year it was pretty clear going into training camp we could not afford to lose Dobbs, JRM, Cam or Hurd. Everything behind them was unproven.
But this year we will have all of those pieces back, plus some pretty valuably developed depth.
I think Hurd or Dobbs would still be the biggest loss. But with Sheriron and QD no longer true freshmen you have to feel a lot better about QB2. And I think if need be we could still be very dangerous with an Alvin/Kelly/CFA combo at RB.
JRM would be a huge loss, but now we have Kirkland and some talented upperclassmen behind him.
If Cam went down we would still have Martin, Gaulden, Foreman and Moseley.
TK might be a really important piece next year. But if we lock down Warrior I will feel better.
Tuttle, Kahlil & Barnett will all be super valuable. But there are still upperclassmen with experience and some young guys with serious talent that could step in.
Coleman Thomas would be a big loss. Any olineman really. But CT really seemed to open up what we could do as far as blocking schemes and whatnot when he took over.
Wolf for sure would be rough. But at least you have a veteran like Croom who should be solid. We need to build depth at TE no doubt. Got some nice pieces coming in.
Wide receiver might be the only spot on the team I'm not totally sold on at this point. But I have a feeling they will improve. Butch will make it a priority this offseason and constantly challenge them.
Injuries are always super depressing to think about for sure, but I guess my point is, the roster is developing quite well. We are inching ever closer to a true Next Man Up mentality.
It's pretty exciting. I think we're really back. Not quite Bama level, but we're in better shape as far as depth goes than anybody else in the East for sure. It might not even be close.
Thoughts?
