How long as it been since you were here? I live in Knox County and have deer in my field about everyday. Turkey too. Lots of good hunting within an hour of Knoxville.

I guess it is all relative but compared to West TN and Western KY where I deer/turkey/duck hunt. East TN as a whole is piss poor hunting. I hunted the majority of the WMA's within an hour of Knox many many times. Had some luck, but that "luck" was hard to come by.

Oh yea and 3 years ago.. I was there through the Dooley Days.

As far as hunting goes.

Middle and west tenn much much better than east

Black bears in Oxford is a myth. I've only seen one, and he was passed out in a bar.

Not many Bears in Mississippi period. Other hunting is good.

Doubtful he is basing his decision on "backpacking, fishing, and hunting" but I agree with you. Backpacking Knoxville > Tallahassee. Fishing Knoxville > Tallahassee. Hunting Tallahassee > Knoxville. Honestly neither place is a great hunting area.. Being a West TN redneck who went to school at UT. I can honestly say, the hunting SUCKS! No ducks, few deer, few turkeys.. Maybe he should look at UT Martin:question:

You just didn't go to the right places. Turkey, deer, and boar or bear are plentiful in certain areas.

Agreed. Just harder to find good areas. The mountains don't hold near as much wildlife for hunting as most would think

Like I said, I own 50 acres of mainly ridgeland and I have deer and turkey everywhere.

I always had success near Wartburg.

I was an outdoorsy guy who went into the Engineering program at UT and I loved every minute on Rocky Top.. I am sure Landon Dickerson would as well.

Rocky Top is real close to eastern Kentucky. We have bear, deer and very large and abundant elk. I see turkey and deer nearly every time I go hiking. I know deer aren't as plentiful in the coalfields region as they were before the plague a few years ago, but they are making a great comeback. I don't know much about other game birds as I have never hunted for them before.
