'16 AZ DE Jonathan Kongbo UT Signee 2/3/16

The visit WAS scheduled for this weekend. Bama had the in home and then the visit date got changed. FSU was going to be this weekend and Bama on the 29th. Last night the Kongbos canceled this visit.

Bama kept pushing him back

The reason for that is unknown but as was stated at the start of this discussion hubbs suggest the reason for that could very well be the kid is a backup plan to the hs kid.

Bama may have just thought the academic Worries weren't worth the risk.

Only point is hubbs is suggesting the same way I see this going to. Hs kid is more important to Bama

I'm not reading into it, but just an observation some of you gentlemen might have fun with... Kongbo has listed us first in both of these tweets.

And wasn't Petteway or whatever it is, a JUCO too? The one that was kicked out of bama for assaulting a kid at the school, then went JUCO. Only to then be re-recruited by saban and let back in the school. Do I have the right player. Either way, yeah saban could care less where you come from or what you have done for that matter.

That was Pettway. He was accused of something and then dismissed by the school, only for him to be cleared of all charges. Bama decided that he was pretty again.

Really not sure why the kid signed with a school that had already given up on him once, but meh. Not my decision to make.

Two things I see.

1) Bama doesn't have grade concerns. If Eddie Lacy got in, a painted rock could enroll there.

2) Bama kept pushing the visit back because, as with most players, getting that last visit and leaving the fresh impression with them is the most desirable position. Saban may be after a high school kid, but the Kongbos controlled this one. Probably doesn't mean anything on our end except Alabama doesn't get or turn away every kid- some just don't want to go there. I like to think the Kongbos saw through the crap and cut the cord.

I thought so thx... But they didn't give up on him. They had no choice as it was a pretty bad assault and on campus too. Never seen the same school take someone back after that or anything near that serious. However, we are talking about Saban. I remember on the sec network they couldn't believe it, nor could they believe how little coverage it was getting, lol.

On #2 I agree. Bruin is trying to paint a picture where pushing back the visit is a bad thing. Everyone wants the last visit. Alabama wanted to control his recruitment and it was sniffed out by the family and Bama was told they were out. It wasn't the other way around.

This is a 5* DE. If we want to play with the big boys we have to win these type of recruitments. The toughest recruits to land are big time, out of state defensive linemen.

Alabama's handling of Pettway is nothing compared to what they did for another defensive lineman named Johnathan Taylor who had been kicked out of Georgia in 2014 for beating up his girlfriend. Saban welcomed him to Alabama with open arms even though Georgia's AD McGarrity had sent him photos of the victim and a copy of the police report. Alabama AD (our very own) Bill Battle tried to claim that he had investigated the domestic assault incident and vetted Taylor but the victim later told ESPN's Outside The Lines that she was never contacted by anyone at Alabama. Johnathan Taylor was later kicked out of Alabama after he committed yet another domestic assault BUT only after Alabama's handling of him and the details of his previous assault charge had received national media scrutiny.

Saban is a great coach - maybe the best ever but make no mistake about where his priorities are. He will take anyone who can get in, regardless of their past or their grades, as long as they are what he is looking for in a football player. He epitomizes the win at any cost approach.

Fwiw, SEC schools are now not permitted to accept players as transfers who have been dismissed from other SEC schools over domestic assault charges... aka "The Nick Saban Rule".

I have expected him to stay out West for weeks. Always felt family situation would drive that.

Doesn't the family live in Arizona? If USC is the choice, that makes some sense. But if Washington is the choice, it's still quite a haul from Arizona...
