'16 AZ DE Jonathan Kongbo UT Signee 2/3/16

Actually LSU had a very good chance WITH Chief. When he defected, he tried to lure Martin to College Station...Martin wasn't interested. Chavis recruiting for the Aggies during that window is a big part of LSU's lawsuit. But yeah, Martin decommitted...we BROUGHT IT UP on here. :wink2:

Chavis, recruiting?

Chavis, recruiting?

 Shocked me too! Anybody remembering his time in Knoxville. Maybe more of that was Fulmer taking the lead since he was a beast. But the running narrative was that the Chief didn't like the on the road aspect and closed when they actually came to campus. He was ranked pretty high at LSU his last two seasons.

Do you all think Kongbo's endorsement of Shoop is a statement about Jancek?

I think he is just noting the obvious. Shoop is a coaching upgrade from Jancek. I also think it provides evidence that Kongbo is still considering UT, but personally, I think our chances are very low come NSD.

I don't think so. He did commit to TN with Jancek here. Hadn't heard anything about PSU in play at all for Kongbo. He likely doesn't know Shoop at all other than internet talk.

True but he also de-committed. Just wondering considering some of the struggles with this class plus the rumors about Phillips being unhappy and considering a transfer (he wouldn't be the first potential contributor on D to do so) AND the report that the change makes it more likely that JRM returns.

And... Jones did give a long time friend his walking papers for some reason, right?

Thanks. You're probably right. Hopefully Shoop's impact will help close a good class out.

Think this move helps on "fixing attrition"? :)

I haven't read him calling any other DC hires "legit".

You are right Butchna he has not. He loves the hire we just made. None of his decommitment had to do with CJJ leaving if anything it helped us out. We are back in the thick of this recruitment and watch for us to continue to push here. CBS is trying here and Kongbo is listening.

I expect our coaches to keep trying down to NSD. I do think having the OV done and gone will be difficult to overcome. Other programs will be more fresh in his mind and I think we've seen that is important in this recruitment.

I agree, but we might see CBS making a visit to "resell" the program to Kongbo. If CBS wants him, he will make his best push. I still believe that distance could be the factor playing against us.

Honestly, it is already impressive that Jones was able to get the money to go after Shoop. Not sure how he did it... but I consider that very promising.

It IS a change in his modus operandi. Which I have staunchly defended. He might have just admitted it was faulty before I did.
