We have had a tempestuous couple of months regarding our commits de-committing. Slaps to the face after slaps to the face, nothing but terrible news! I know this chit happens in the recruiting world, especially in January, but this is VERY odd. We've lost some solid recruits and it hurts. Kongbo is the latest debacle. Why? Is Butch telling these kids to go elsewhere? They just all change their mind? Aces up staff's sleeves?

I guess what I am wondering is what gives here? Why the huge slide in recruiting? It really has become alarming and disheartening.

It looks to me like two kids were told to look elsewhere. Then an OL recruit and a CB recruit commit to Butch. We then lose Kongbo as he realizes staying close to home may be better for him. Sounds like typical recruiting to me.

Hunter Johnson was a dagger and so was Kongbo. I guess it is what it is, natural. But still, it has seemed like a nightmare lol

You mean Carl Lawson. Of course we are going to strike out on top recruits, or lose them near the end of the cycle. It happens! Again, all I was saying is that it seemed like we got hit with bad news left and right with no good news sprinkled in. Glad to see we got the 2 new 3 stars to replace the blow.

There are little battles won and lost everyday in recruiting. You win some and you lose some. Bottom line is there is a very slight difference in the athletes we recruit between 4 and 5 star kids [even some 3]. It's in the heart of the player and what the coach gets out of them. My wife went to college with London Fletcher as a freshman. He was a D1 basketball player at St Francis. His heart was in football though and nobody was offering him anything. He walked onto a D3 school in Ohio and wound up playing 15 years in the NFL.

Just trust the system and let the coaches do their job. As long as they are using the full allotment of scholarships and filling needs, we must trust our coaches to get them ready from there.

I watched Fletcher flying around on Special Teams for years back in the day at the Pontiac Silverdome....Lions fans loved him.

You have to have a realistic understanding of the difficulties of recruiting. One study done indicated 80% of athletes go to their favorite college/university. Everyone is battling over the other 20%. Sure there are some changing of the mind type events, but I put more weight on how a HC evaluates talent, not saying this is true, but UT has beefed up their academic expectations, and if there is a chance a player is not going to cut it, I don't believe it is worth the time and $$$$ to continue the pursuit.......jmo

Go Vols!

And one of those three stars was thought to be going to Okie. They were in the playoff this year. They must suck as well.

Hunter Johnson committed way too early in my opinion. Never thought it would stick. Why was everyone sooooo hype of him?

You talk about NOT fitting the system............

I will say this, I worked in Yuma Az and that school is not what you would call an academic powerhouse and the level of competition is extremely suspect........just saying.
