DC Candidates?

Shoop or Chavis or GTFO
Justin Wilcox's initials aren't GTFO. I find it amusing to hear some fans here, like yourself, pretend to be in an elevated position to tell other fans to get the F out (of the forum).

As long as we are all bringing our opinions in, I would love to have Shop but don't see it happening unfortunately. I certainly am not a Chizik fan but of name coaches he may be the pick. First Unc is not known for throwing money around, two they are still awaiting the hammer from the NCAA for academic fraud in the football program and he has coached in the SEC. He improved their defense this year but that's like bragging I am the biggest midget in the room. Take it for what it is worth.

I'm hearing a few people throw around the DC from Houston. Houston's D was about as stout as it gets last year and I would be willing to give it a shot, but I don't know anything about the guy or where he came from or what his D looked like before last year. Is he a one year wonder?

Shoop is the guy. He coaches DBs too. Read between the lines as to what is likely to happen. Shoop will bring one of his coaches with him.
Whatever is going to happen has already happened behind the scenes.
In Butch I trust.

Listen...last year we needed an OC. and Butch kept on talking about consistency in the program, terminology, philosophy, bla bla..

It's gonna be IN-HOUSE.

i agree. but surely we have something basically in the bag? right? i don't know a thing about Shoop except that he seems pretty tight with PSU, turned down Aub and LSU, both reportedly offering over $1 mil....

Shoop turned down a $1.5M offer from LSU and closer to $2M at Auburn. Auburn wanted to make him the highest paid DC in college football and he declined. He wants to be HC. It would be a shocking get. His pay grade would be way above DeBord's and the rest of the assistants.

Doudt Wilcox will return to the south. He is a West Coast guy. Isn't he at USC?

Randy Shannon wanted everything imaginable the last time we thought he was coming here to replace Wilcox. So, that won't work. bUTch is not desperate enough to give in to his unreasonable demands.

if Dooley were going to be your boss... what kinds of demands would YOU have? :)

A feller has got to even things up, somehow..

he coached at Utah St, FL INternational and Uconn.

defense was great at forcing turnovers. i think though, this year at Houston was the big hit putting his name out there. not sure how he would be to be honest.

Why do people try to insult other people on here LOL. I come here for news and to shoot the bull about Big Orange Football. Computer bad asses I guess. :shaking2:

Nor do I understand some folks' urge to be mean spirited. Such behavior wilts the enjoyment of reading through threads. I suppose human nature is what it is, though. :cray:

Kinda what I thought. We would be taking a chance on an unknown.... granted houston's D was VERY good last year. We need to be consistent though. Not that I have any say in it, but it's a scary thought.

They finished the season ranked 53rd in total D, calm down.

 huh? did you see the title of this thread? discussing potential replacements for the guy....hardly worship.
:hi:

yeah...and I read thru 9 pages of don't get the firing, bad mistake, etc...did you read thru them??

He turned down big money from auburn and lsu. I doubt UT would pay him more. Never know though.

i don't think so...who, martinez? iirc didn't he suck out loud as DC at GA...good DB coach....terrible DC....

Rumor is the Haslem family sat down with gruden for defensive coordinator, and then brought in manning as a quarterback coach. Then just when you couldn't think things couldn't get any better... Fulmer as as AD. TIFWIW

Perhaps Haslam is better suited for Diesel fuel stations

i'm sorry, but there's just a part of me that looks at Chavis, Pellini, Shoop even...and i just think "stale".

we're an up and coming program, and everyone in the SEC is recycling these coaches. how many SEC schools as Kevin Steele been at already? Muschamp? Martinez? Chavis?

doing the same thing over and over again, and only changing the color of the jersey you're doing it for, isn't really changing is it?

anyway, i think this is an opportunity to stand out, and make an impact. maybe shoop is that guy, but i don't think we can afford him.

Chavis wouldn't be bad, but it's not an impact.

Pellini....does he bring his cat? jeez.

i have no idea who it will be....

People thought DeBord was stale. We just put up the second most points in a season in Tennessee history.

Just saying.

Cant say that anyone attached to Vanderbilt or Penn State would ever sound like a good hire.

One scenario not yet discussed - Butch keeps it in the "Tennessee family" and lures Chavis back from T A&M.
