'16 AZ DE Jonathan Kongbo UT Signee 2/3/16

So instead of coming to a team on the rise, he goes to a sinking ship. Good luck.

This guy wanted to be guarantee he was going to start and got that for whatever it is worth from some teams. He could see what we had here. Perhaps that was part of the reason but I think he was really wanting to stay closer to home and can't blame him for that. Glad he went ahead and did this now instead of at the last minute. He really should have waited to commit but this is how it is played now.

West coast. Hell if he was tempted by Washington of all places you knew USC would really get to him. USC needs all kinds of help their defense sucks

What is going on with recruiting. There are a few good players, but hardly anything that is going to worry the Bama's of the world. Hell, half the SEC for that matter. Not looking good.

This hurts for sure but we got some encouraging news on both Warrior and Brown today so there is no need to apply this in macro terms.

Most of our big targets are waiting until NSD and we don't have enough spots to take borderline guys. It sucks but Marshall/Chidi were Gitshirts and DCG/Kongbo were guys you had to take because of talent and hope they stick but I'd bet the staff had good idea they would both be hard to keep being far away

Very mediocre class at this point. Gonna need a big NSD.

Oh well! We didn't even get to see what Darrell Taylor can due since he RS. Maybe Phillips will stay at DE now.

Recruiting is very annoying this year. Don't commit if you're not sure about your decision. It's that freaking simple. I don't understand kids anymore.

Weak instate class of players you don't want will do that.
Probably true. You got to have a back up plan. We've never been able to depend solely on the talent in the state to build a team. If that's the plan, it will fail. Kippy Brown said it best, when Tennessee was at its peak we were what you called a scavenger program. Pick a few here and there. Not going to succeed without doing that. This isn't Cali, Florida, or Texas, not enough here to depend year end and year out..

I wonder if this has to do with the SEC's new transfer rule. I was never able to find any information on why he left Wyoming. The Pac-12 has no such rule.

Next year in state gets better. Though we still need to keep Bama and LsU out. coupla nice skill players, secondary, and coupla three star DE. could be a nice base.

We don't have to go to the ends of the earth either. Greater Atlanta is well within our 250 mile recruiting radius... Let's see how we do with those guys before declaring the sky falling. Our limited numbers have also been pointed out - as has the fact that Guarantano is from New Jersey. The staff is well aware that we need talent outside of our base.
